i think most sites are AI, and DATAMINING sites. glassdoor was pretty average until they got astroturfed in 2021. simplyhired i used had more positive responses in the past, but i think they changed for the worst now. i have been on obscure sites, but i dont remember those anymore and those likely wouldnt have survived the pandemic onslaught of enshittification. i think indeed always had ghost jobs/listings.
LinkedIn was shit for far longer than its current Facebook like page it is now.
Its a data harvesting site that pretends to be a professional site. No one should have ever been using it.
None. What happens now is A LOT of social engineering phish tactics via those detailed sources, so I’ve since closed all accounts. I’ll find a new job via networking with current people if I so choose.
Its probably better to run your own 27B model that pretends to be a blonde conservative woman to steal crypto from chuds across the globe.
If that doesnt work its back to going to the business websites directly.
27B? These chuds are reading at a 16B level at best.
How does one set this up? I could use a side hustle.
Join my program and the secrets of passive income they don’t want you to know can be yours!
But I’m just interested in the secrets they do want me to know about

Unfortunately, a lot of it comes down to personal connections. Seems to be the only way to cut through the noise these days. I know this isn’t a satisfying answer for young people starting out who don’t have that network.
I’ve started going to as many local industry meetups as I can in my city so I can get connections. It really is a who-you-know market now.
I got my degree in 2008. It was like that back then, and gas been for ages.
Not as bad as now though. I graduated a little earlier than you and I didn’t have to reach out to apply for the 3 jobs I had over the first 7 years of my career. I’ve been with my current company since then and it went the same way. It was always a recruiter who reached out with a legit job opening and I didn’t have any connections with those companies. I even turned down the 3rd job initially and they called me back a year later with a better offer.
I unfortunately have no great suggestions. I’m at my wits’ end with this stuff. And Glassdoor got scooped by Indeed, so that’s off the table. If you have applicable skills, try city/county civil job boards and local colleges/universities. It probably won’t be remote, but it won’t be too far away either. I truly wish you the best with your search.
i wonder if those are more impacted now, that people are more desperate after getting laid off or unable to get anything after graduating.
Thanks, things will be okay. I think more people need to vocally speak out about how absolutely garbage unusable LinkedIn and Indeed are for actually finding jobs now.
Yeah notice that luckily still twice gotten a job using Indeed but blind luck. HireCafe is okay bur no luck locally for me. Screw Monster. But job boards suck and are getting worse with them all embracing AI. At moment goimg work my new day job while trying get my business off the ground.
hirecafe uses AI? its very janky when choosing locations.
Had good luck with hiring.cafe but it you’re adverse to the use of AI in making a site functional then you’ll have to skip it.
More of a search engine, you don’t apply through site it just gives you links to the company hiring site.
Thanks for recommending it, I’ll give it a try. I don’t care if AI is used to make it, if anything that could make it better because cost of production is lower meaning they don’t have to do shitty things like putting ads and fake jobs.
I care about whether AI is being used to create fake jobs which is why Indeed and LinkedIn are now completely unusable. AI recruiter questions should be illegal. Not to mention I kept getting job recommendations on Indeed for things that require 5+ years of experience in Radiology for instance even though my background doesn’t fit that at all.
what is your field, i think most fields are suffering right now. if something like health?
When I was unemployed over the summer this was one of my daily search methods. I found more jobs that were actually applicable to me than on LinkedIn or Indeed, although it’s worth noting that they don’t have every company on there. I’d recommend adding any companies you want them to scan (there’s a form where you can drop the link to their hiring site) so you don’t have to visit all of your preferred employers manually.
For tech jobs, news.ycombinator.com still has its monthly “who is hiring” thread, though it’s mostly AI jobs now.
For local tv/radio jobs, it’s usually the state broadcasting association job boards. Not every industry has an equivalent, but a lot do.
I don’t know of any good job boards unfortunately, but #FediHire and #GetFediHired on Mastodon might be helpful, I remember some people being able to land jobs at companies that use little to no AI with it.
