The most cooperative coworker in my team, which i have judged as an undiagnosed autist and made me feel welcome since day one.
Our teams direct superior who has been a massive supporting and stabilising character for me but also in keeping the whole operation functional.
My department superior, who isn’t very involved in day to day operations but respects my need for accommodations and values my work.
Are all going to retire in 5 years time…
If things go bad i cannot look for an other job, i hate to sell myself in those weird performative ways, i rather die of hunger.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What corporation gets a free pass from you?
13·12 days agoCard against humanity… maybe…
Is there a joke here or is it because i am going to a funeral this week that i can’t find it?
Sounds like they stopped caring about the relationship and autism is just the excuse.
Unless there are significant changes to your ability to cope post marriage that are affecting them you are the same person as you always where when they decide to marry you.
This is not your fault, your partner should be there to support you, not drop you when they no longer feel like it.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Seriously, just stop (or use Linux)
14·15 days agoMy week as a windows forced office worker just peaked having seen this meme.
The world started yelling first, i don’t know why all the fuss when we respond back to it.
I highly prefer a wireless mouse, but only if does also come with a wire.

Autism@lemmy.world•What's the relation between Autism and ADHD? Why are both often related?
1·16 days agoBoth are independ labels for a specific set of neurodivergent features your brain may or may not have.
Basically, a young brain grows and develops neurological connections. For most people, those connections are relatively similar or typical but minor differences in them is part od why people are all still unique.
When you are “blessed” with neurodivergent dna from your parents, you are more likely to make different, atypical connections.
There is biologically no difference between neurodivergence from autism or adhd. But for medical purposes we group an area of “symptoms” with a label so we can grant each the professional help they need.
Neurodivergence also does not even need to occur with a genetic predisposition, simply growing up differently to your peers can already show the difference, but it doesn’t need to be negative either. Just like how many parts of adhd and autism can be positive.

Autism@lemmy.world•I personally dislike calling myself neurodivergent
7·17 days agoThe term and idea of neurodivergency originated within the autism community but its not true that its a replacement word for autism as it also includes adhd, ocd, bipolar, dislexia… Anyone with some atypical neurological configuration.
But i get you, and your case shows why its important that the classical medical terminology stays separate from the neurodivergent ones. The way i see it one has a more socio-cultural purpose, the other an instructive medial one.
Under neurodivergence we who are different celebrate how similar we all actually are in contrast to the dominant neurotypical masses, it does not differ between our actual challenges on purpose and it can be a great way to explain ourselves to neurotypicals without having to go into the details of the diagnostic labels they may not understand or only know bias about. So in may ways it is a “i am different/special” label used in a positive “but that shouldn’t matter” kind of way.
When the context is about getting the right help, the term does nothing. But what does carry weight are the right diagnostic criteria which professionals help has experience with and knows what set of tools are relevant.
It is known that technically speaking, adhd is part of the autism spectrum, but the good reason on why its kept distinct is because giving people with mild adhd the same access to help as an autism diagnosis might get you would exhaust the system and make it harder for those on the spectrum with severe challenges to find any help at all.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•noob questions seeking non-noob answersEnglish
3·17 days agoI would still consider myself a noob but i do feel accomplished enough to answer this properly.
Hardware depends on your budget. It does not need to be bleeding edge either, i would focus on a good server case that makes it easy to upgrade over time and maybe fits a few harddrives if you don’t plan on having a nas.
Also make sure to check how much sata connections your motherboard can handle, using an m.2 slots may occupy some of the physical sata connections.
I highly, highly recommend proxmox for an OS.
You can set up every different service into its own lxc container, its wonderful to know you can experiment with whatever and everything else will be unaffected and just keep working. Within lxc things can just run using docker (though this is officially not recommended it works fine). The resource sharing between lxc containers is excellent. Taking snapshots a breeze. And when an lxc is not enough you can easily spin up some vm with whatever distro or even windows also. Best server-choice i made ever!
The zfs format for your storage pool is also very good. And you definitely want redundancy, redundancy makes it so x amount of drives can fail and the system just keeps running like normal while you replace the broken drive, otherwise a single drive failing ruins all your data.
Unless you make every drive its own pool with specific items that you backup separately but thats honestly more troublesome then learning how to setup a pool.
How you want a pool and how much redundancy is a personal choice but i can tell you how i arranged mine.
I have 5 identical drives which is the max My system can handle. 4 of them are in a pool with a raidz1 configuration (equivalent to raid-5) this setup gives me 1 drive of redundancy and leaves me 3 drives of actual usable space.
I could have added the fifth drive in the pool fo more but i opted not too, to protect my immich photons against complete critical failure. This fifth drive is unmounted when not used.
Basically my immich storage are in a dataset, which you can think of as a directory on your pool that you can assign to different lxc to keep things separate.
Every week a script will mount the fifth drive, rsync copy my immich dataset from the pool onto it. Unmount the drive again. Its a backup of the most important stuff outside of the pool.
This drive can also be removed from the cases front in an emergency, which is part of why I recommend spending some time finding a case that fits your wants more then worrying about how much ram.
Best of luck!
Hyper focus is an explicit trait of adhd where they have very intense focus on one single topic.
Also consider
- Being overly stimulated
- being socially clueless/akward
- having niche special interests
- more often have an interest in computers and gaming
- can be very good at theatre/pretend from a lifetime of masking
- gets shunned for being weird (becoming the class clown is an adhd strategy to avoid this)
Combination of both diagnosis is not uncommon and there is even a pattern where high level at functional masking autistic people get an adhd diagnosis in school long before autism is “discovered” in adulthood.
It has heen proposed that adhd, just like some other neurodivergences (ocd, dyslexia,…) should technically all belong on the autism spectrum, they are all about “the brains network of neurons being build in a non typical way”, which is also why everyone is still unique, but doing so would make it harder to medically label the specific needs of the more challenging forms of autism that need that label to get appropriate help.
Tbh i think the hypeland configuration solved pretty much all that for me.
The project has been renamed and changed maintainer since but its still very much alive if anyone wants to check it out.

I had never seen a tiling window manager before and my only experience on Linux was a little ubuntu server to run my Minecraft server from.
I installed arch using archinstall a few years ago just because i got sold on a custom hyperland config, never looked back.
I have yet to understand what the fuss is all about with it being difficult or not new user friendly.
Yes there are weekly updates, and on occasion they do break something, but that was never different on windows.
I stream from self hosted sources, best of all worlds. No enshitification.
New media is acquired for free from the public libraries and then ripped, which under my local laws is perfectly legal.
Its another thing to literally be so autistic that the extremely bad repercussions simply don’t matter.
It wouldn’t really be a choice on my part. If society finds my existence so offensive they execute me for it thats a problem for their conscious not mine, i will die some day anyway and i am content to do so for not betraying what i know is right.
Feels bad for my family though but being an example of making unethical compromises is worse.

There is a story that gets passed down in my family from the time a pocket watch was considered luxury.
Allegedly to know whether it was time for a break, end of work. The boss would just look at his watch and say nope. Without anyone able to verify.
So my ancestor saved up their money and bought a silver pocketwatch to call the boss out when he cheated, a fancy one presumably because a cheap one could cause an argument that it doesn’t keep time as well as the one the boss had (it might have been the exact same one as the boss idr)
We still own the watch.
