Its really fascinating to get a view of something thru what people view as representativr
A recent song for me… Headphones, by Radio Killer
Don’t know if it’s specifically about autism or more generally about social anxiety, introversion and not fitting in, but “My Little Underground” and “Never Understand” by Jesus and Mary Chain have certainly been anthemic for me, especially in my teens.
Unnamed Feeling by Metallica always resonated on the alexithymia angle.
Honestly St. anger has quite a few that I think resonate well, Invisible Kid for obvious reasons. Frantic for meltdowns. My World for masking.
Also the fact that so many people hate that album triggers my contrarian energy to say that it’s my favorite. People’s expectations of what Metallica should be is why that album was hated.
Metallica catches a lot of flak for being the most commercially successful metal band but when they did something entirely from the gut, folks threw a tantrum. Something about being told to be authentic only to get immediately shat on feels like a pretty quintessential autism experience.
Private life by Oingo Boingo.
Year of the Cat by Al Stewart
Most people I’ve shown this song to are like “I don’t get it” and I’m like “haha yeah I know…” 🥲
Heard it for the first time a few years ago and it’s been buzzing in my brain since then. I don’t listen to much music anymore (lots is too overwhelming for me), but this one never left me.
Pretty literal but Got the Autism by Mattstagraham is fun.
I really don’t know about anthemic, but I think, it’s gotta be this one for me: https://freemusicarchive.org/music/The_Kyoto_Connection/Kyoto_Soundscapes/4_Alone_in_the_station/
Used to take the train a lot and that’s basically the theme song to my mind going on a little adventure while all the buzz is happening around me.
