      It would help if there wasn’t a tendency for mechanics to fleece people who don’t understand cars. When I looked like a young woman, huge difference in the way I was treated - I needed to bring my dad.

      Hell, the entire industry seems to be built on fleecing people. My stepdad was a finance guy for dealerships and he would fuck over anyone, friends and family included.

      I’d love to opt out of car ownership entirely, but that’s literally the only way I can get to work. Need to pay a dickload to maintain the thing that gets me paid.

      As a “mechanic” myself, I can say: many people mean, if we wouldn’t have the TÜV (car inspection) every 2 years in Germany, they would neglect so much! I’m talking, no oil change, no new tires, even with barely any profile left, no new brakes…

        Same in the UK. We have an annual MOT tests and even with that some drivers let their cars slide so much.

        Ist das beim TÜV auch gestaffelt, dass Neuwagen noch nicht so oft müssen?

        Bei uns in der Schweiz ist es typischerweise so 5, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2 Jahre. Aber wie immer sind wir zu föderalistisch, als dass es einheitlich wäre
