linuxmemes@lemmy.world•windows is using steamOs as their gaming performance goal
8·2 months agoValve also needed to break its dependency on Windows, in case MS decides to go down the walled garden route like Apple. MS making the windows store the only supported way to install apps and games would be devastating for Valve.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Cannot play games b/c Internet is needlessly required. Starcraft, ~~Age of Empires~~, Civilization..English
18·3 months agoStarCraft 1 and AoE 1 shouldn’t require internet, I bought them close to release day and I didn’t have the internet back then.
“se planter” is yet another meaning of the word, it’s slang for “make a mistake” or “have an accident” (usually involving a vehicle). E.g.:
Je me suis planté à mon examen de maths
Je me suis planté en moto
You should, it’s fun to use and runs on pretty much every platform.
Java has changed a lot since Java 8. Here’s a 3-line HelloWorld.java compatible with Java 21+:
void main() { System.out.println("Hello, World!"); }

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some Ship of Theseus bands, where all original members have been replaced by someone new?
28·5 months agoYeah, same for Opeth, Mikael is Opeth for all intents and purposes, him joining a few months after the band’s inception is irrelevant.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•POV: You maintain a JS library that 80% of modern web infrastructure uses as a dependency.
33·5 months agoThere are several legit reasons why you’d do this. Unit tests, for example: override getRandom() with an implementation that always returns the same series of numbers, and now you have repeatable tests without touching the production code.
My guess is that they have to make deals with each country’s music industry association (RIAA in the US, SACEM in France,…) which can take time or fail entirely.
Deezer is French.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where do you draw the line regarding windows?
14·6 months agoI thought this was about recall but no, there is a second keylogger in Windows lol
Step 4: Toggle the switch off under Getting to Know You. The keylogger is now off.
Well that’s not creepy at all…

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How does internet advertising work? Where is all the money coming from? More...
8·7 months agoIIRC that’s the whole point of luxury car commercials during half-time breaks. 99% of watchers can’t afford one, but the ad is there to remind the owners of that very fact.
On some machines PC games actually run better under SteamOS than Windows but sure, use the inferior OS if you insist.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•As an asexual girl who still wants a male partner, would “scheduled sex” be a dealbreaker for men?
4·8 months agoI have a really hard time understanding how he considers any of that a problem.
Very important step you missed: be scouted out by the financial elite early on, then have them groom you every step of the way.
This implies some respect might be due. OP’s version leaves no room for doubt.
100dB high-pitched guitars, relentless double bass and shrieking vocals at a black metal show: total bliss.
My kids when they yell out of excitement: unbearable.

At some point the price becomes the selling point. Cognac became hugely popular among US rappers and basketball players because they would go to a nightclub and order the most expensive bottle to show off.
