19·12 days agoI changed one of my PCs over to Debian this month, and I was surprised at how smooth it is. I guess I was expecting it to be way more barebones. I don’t know if I need more than this!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with grief?English
21·13 days agoWith grief, the only way out is through. Unlike other mental ailments such as depression or anxiety, you’re not going to find a cognitive distortion or flawed line of thinking that is responsible for the distress and can be challenged. Grief is logical, and we have to feel it until it becomes less intense.
What we can do is modulate how much we’re processing at any given moment to try to keep it manageable. Think of it like that saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” You can’t change the total size of the task, but you can control how big of bites you take.
Finding what helps you reduce the “bites” will be personal, but starting with some general coping skills like “thought-stopping”, meditation, or any activity that keeps your mind active and occupied is a good start.
I almost used this godzilla gif to illustrate my point instead. Maybe you’ll enjoy it more.

I have to admit that I love the “pacman” pun quite a bit, which is nearly enough by itself to convince me to try it. One day. Maybe.
I’m only 4 months into Linux, and apt is my comfort zone. Checking out other distros that use something else has me running away like:

2·1 month agoI just got this error for the first time yesterday and was briefly confused. I didn’t realize that you don’t automatically get sudo privileges when you set up an admin account on every distro.
This happened to me too a few years ago, and I’m also quite a calm person, so it caught me by surprise.
It was 6 months or so after becoming a father, and my best guess is that the sleep deprivation was messing with my head. It stopped and I’ve been fine since.
I get them sometimes too. After googling it before, my best guess is precordial catch. Apparently good posture and staying hydrated can help prevent it.

I don’t think so. The joke is that you’re supposed to put your arms up in the air to appear bigger when you run into bears, so bear-cop is suddenly intimidated when the perp does it.
