On the contrary, I do recommend it. Especially if the plot is an important part of the enjoyment factor.

That ain’t no furry’s car, that’s likely (hopefully) someone who made the sticker thinking “bones are associated with dogs, they love bones, swapping a heart out for a bone would be cutsie” (Or maybe it’s someone who’s partner has a dog fursona and they get a chuckle out of the double takes people do when they see it)

Also on the “personal mascot” front, one could also say that they choose the fursonas they do because of the traits in those critters they see in themselves.

For example: someone who sees themselves as chill, a friend to many, wholly unbothered by the things around them, and perhaps a bit chonky might have themselves a capybara fursona.

“Answer” by Fredric Brown. I dug through my bookmarks of short stories to find it because I knew I read it before as well. (For those curious, it’s like a 1 minute read)

2 more that come to mind are “The Last Question” by Isaac Asimov and “The Nine Billion Names of God” by Arthur C. Clarke. Both great short stories.
