That’s not a question but yes, he’s kind of silly… he does have a crayon (?) stuck in his brain though so, all in all, he’s doing alright, lol.

6·3 days agoJust to feel the room’s temperature, but I always speak my mind regardless (it’s Lemmy, if you’re not honest here where are you honest?). Unless I’m missing something, the post stands by itself (or not) regardless of votes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What cities have bad vibes or just feel "off"?
4·3 days agoIt’s like Marseille without the sun and friendly Southern vibes, that’s what it reminds me of, especially the Midi area. I recall walking nearby and there’s like a tunnel where the tram goes by, and people had set up tents and impromptu “restaurants” in it. What a mess. But my brother and his lady just went to Bruges and they said it was beautiful so it’s not like the whole of Belgium is as ugly. 🙏

171·4 days agoIME, Brussels is truly awful. Grey, ugly, depressing and decaying.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone tell me what I want to hear so I can blindly follow them?
31·6 days agoI can tell you what you need to hear and you’ll get mad initially but you’ll eventually follow if you’re wise. 😅
Player’s “Baby Come Back” and John Lennon’s “Woman” come to mind. Also, Juan Gabriel’s “Amor Eterno” (Eternal Love), an ode to dead moms and the love we have for them despite their absence.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the biggest misconception you think many people have?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the biggest misconception you think many people have?
17·9 days agoLike I said, if it goes against your understanding you’ll never truly believe it, not for long at least. It’s not choosing to believe with no “good reason”, it’s choosing to believe despite there being no relation at all between matters of fact (ascertained by the senses) and that. Check out Hume’s fork, it’s kinda like that. God is not in this world, God is necessarily outside of it and of a different nature (we’re data for God the programmer, we’re his free-willed Sims and the universe is a sandbox) so you can’t find Him here, through our senses, and added to that are the classical fork interdictions (e.g., moral statements cannot derive from matters of fact, one can simply not care).
And if you have some somewhat prosocial if not completely developed set of moral standards, well that’s great, I’m happy! Men are made good after all, hence the propaganda needed to turn one against each other.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some simple ways to boost your health and mood?
9·10 days agoGood stuff! They say the gut is like a second brain or something like that. Pity I treat it like shit, and I have IBS too. 😭

6·10 days agoA struggle cuddle with my cat seems to calm me down. I noticed myself doing it when stressed (it doesn’t happen often) and read about it and it seems to check out. 👍
Oh and a long lukewarm/hot shower always makes me feel better, and it’s very good at dealing with bloating.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the biggest misconception you think many people have?
49·10 days agoPotentially triggering, beware: belief is something reserved for everything outside of the material and observable, like the afterlife, God and values. Often people want material “evidence” as a prerequisite for belief but it just doesn’t work that way, there’s no necessary material connection between that and belief. Ofc, belief that cannot conform to one’s reason and understanding will never stand for long, but it has nothing to do with the world perceived by the senses, that’s what all scientific fields and tools are for!
When I say many people here/in the West don’t understand the nature of belief, that’s what I mean. They don’t stand for anything, they just accept the world through their senses and in the absence of values (again, belief), they can only default to consumerism and hedonism (because the senses say they feel good and that’s all one can “know” in the absence of belief).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone who works in an industry or for an employer with clear negative impacts on society/the world maintain a clear concience?
5·10 days agoYou don’t have to virtue signal but you could have virtue… Idk if it’s better or worse that you’ve reached the point you simply don’t care and can be honest about it, at least with us online strangers. But I’ll stop now, have a good one.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone who works in an industry or for an employer with clear negative impacts on society/the world maintain a clear concience?
5·10 days agoWestern, ultra-materialistic, morally-vacuous take. Nothing new but that’s how all money-worshippers operate and why any group of people that share that core idea can never become a society. You can’t build with “fuck you I got mine” people.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone who works in an industry or for an employer with clear negative impacts on society/the world maintain a clear concience?
3·10 days agoWhat a nonsensically morally relativistic take. Sure, I could spin you feeding the homeless as “communist” and therefore immoral but that doesn’t make it true. Just because people lie or say nonsense doesn’t mean it’s “equally valid”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone who works in an industry or for an employer with clear negative impacts on society/the world maintain a clear concience?
4·10 days agoYou’re supposed to feel at the very least uncomfortable with it if your involvement/impact is minimal. And you should carry that guilt for as long as you’re there since the least you can do is feel bad about it. And ofc, once you don’t, you’ve lost your moral north and you become one more of them… Maybe try to steal a little or even sabotage things discreetly?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone who works in an industry or for an employer with clear negative impacts on society/the world maintain a clear concience?
3·10 days agoMany people will literally die for their beliefs, for the sake of righteousness. But I agree, sometimes people will be immorally self-centered (very often in some cultures, especially the morally relativistic ones).
You can be as naked as you want but covered? Nuh uh! Although that well-known populist racist-bait is probably now doubly pushed with the advent of ubiquitous facial recognition. 🙃
Probably more due to their geographical advantages compared to their European peers and other non-ideological factors… but I’m not a WW2 history buff, TBF.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When other countries say Americans are loud, what does this mean?
2·10 days agoAnglo Saxons are loud and have main character syndrome, then? 😅 I have a feeling Aussies don’t, and most Americans I’ve met have actually been sort of ashamed of saying they’re from the States and overall sweet, lol, so the world might be healing.
Ehhhh, idk, I’m not formally part of any fandom, I just yap about it online when the opportunity arises, but I’d probably say Dune? And this is not very controversial amongst book readers (most of the current fandom came from Denis’ movies) but the recent movies both left many important book passages/scenes out (the dinner party, for example) and also unnecessarily and to the movies’ detriment changed some characters in very fundamental ways. And I’m not even talking about sex/gender cause sometimes that doesn’t change much of the narrative, but other stuff like Chani being just a sassy New Yorker instead of an extremely mature 15 yo with big responsibilities in her tribe, or the superficial “religious schism” subplot in the second movie, which is certainly relatable/acceptable to the average Western 20 something but is incompatible with Fremen society as Herbert wrote it.
Instead, Denis made a very pretty movie with long, silent shots… but Dune is anything but silent, it’s heavy in dialogue and internal monologues like Legend of the Galactic Heroes. A bit of a disappointment but, hey, the first movie pushed me to get a COVID vaccine shot quickly so I guess something good came out of it? 😅
