So, this is not necessarily a good thing. Whilst I am happy for all the good boys and girls. The National Institute of Health has shut down it’s labs testing the effects and treatment of ‘stress and sepsis induced cardiomyopathy’ on a large mammal. Mice and Rats are not good stand ins for people and so, in science, we test on larger mammals first, before primates and then humans. They are talking about replacing this step with, I shit you not, AI. This should not just be concerning, this should be inspiring people to get the fuck out of The United States. This is a quote from the article:

"As the watchdog that first uncovered and battled Dr. Fauci’s beagle tests (the biggest animal testing scandal in history), we’re proud that White Coat Waste has closed the NIH’s last in-house beagle laboratory—and the US government’s biggest dog lab,” said White Coat Waste Project Founder Anthony Bellotti in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We applaud the President for cutting this wasteful NIH spending and will keep fighting until we defund all dog labs at home and abroad.”

This is part of RFK jr Gutting funding for medical science, framed as a positive. This is fucking awful news. Nobody likes experimenting on animals. But, trust me you want large mammal experimentation before drugs and other medical treatments come to market. You do not want Grok, or Copilot extrapolating results from rodent experiments to replace this step. This is bad news, very bad.

This is only uplifting because it’s ended. It’s horrifying that it ever happened - and I will be very happy if every person complicit in the program gets prosecuted for animal abuse.

While it is always positive to stop suffering, this does not feel very uplifting. I was not aware of this suffering until now…
