This is the first time in my long life I realized that some people might not like the godly nectar that is honeydew melon.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[Trigger Warning: Suicide]... Parents, how would you feel if your child died by suicide?
2·9 days agoI just want to have the “proof” that they care
Well, you know, your life and situation is more complicated than what you can describe in a text-based chat forum. If they’re like most parents, they do dozens of things every day that make sense only because they love you. You’re just used to them. Not to mention all the things they’ve done for you that you don’t even remember.
All of this is why I suggested in another message to get professional help. Because nobody here can know what you need and what your situation actually is.

2·9 days agoBut if I mention suicidal feelings, oh shit that is like nuclear war.
Yeah, even if not helpful for you probably, that’s a pretty normal parent response to a threat like that. I’m not being sarcastic here. It’s not an indication that they don’t love or value you, rather the exact opposite.
My personal recommendation to you is that you should be very careful what anonymous people in the internet tell you when the context is this important. Some people just don’t give a shit about the well-being of anyone and will actively try to make things worse for you.
Get professional help.

2·9 days agoI’ve had some moments where my teen was so fucked up mentally that in my very private thoughts I kinda suspected that they might do it. And in that very stressful situation, in my very private thougts, I would’ve understood that decision.
But if they actually had done it, all that fog would’ve cleared immediately and it would have sucked more than anything could suck.
edit I sure hope you’re not thinking with a single atom in your body of doing it to spite your parents.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you have strong opinions about universal basic income?
2·12 days agoSounds like a great idea, and in fact if AI proceeds as it looks to be proceeding, Basic Income will be the only thing that keeps society from totally collapsing.
The tricky part is trying to figure out how much it should be. If such a thing would be implemented like totally in a society, it would probably have a huge economical impact. And as far as I can tell, nobody has any idea what that impact would be. Who knows, perhaps it’ll be completely nullified by prices rising exactly as much as the UBI is.
Seems like mom needs to fuck off from that toxic family
Somebody from my high school class whined to the math teacher that “are we ever going to need this shit for like anything” he replied, “no, you won’t need any of these to work the cash register”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What Youtube channel has maintained high quality standards over the years?
4·13 days agoRed Letter Media. I’ve grown bored of the content though but that’s a me problem.
Majuular. He makes long form retrospectives of old games, his Ultima retros are amazing. Just keeps getting better and better.
If there was some non-consensual sex that the woman weirdly likes, this would be an Ayn Rand fan fic.
You need to watch Andor if you haven’t already.
I would never tell my doctor. But perhaps that’s just Finland. We get a permanent mark in the record if you mention it, and especially if at some in your life you need to services of a psychologist, that’s gonna come back to haunt you.

1·15 days agoThe Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings. It was like a 5-year old had written an epic fantasy novel spanning several millenia.
I think he also is reported to have said that everybody can be redeemed if they start believing. Frankly speaking, I’d start believing pretty fucking fast if I saw/experienced direct evidence of their existence. Personal mental malfunctions nonwithstanding.
