the mods who run it (and also created the lemmy software which makes this whole thing more complex) love stalin and mao (theres a reason why its Lemmy.ml and not .com, the ml stands for marxist-leninist) and putin and often silence opinions they disagree with on their platform. They use their instance to spread their propaganda about authoritarism and communism and while their aren’t the only instance to do that, the other ones weren’t run by the Lemmy devs, so other instances defederated from them - I’m talking about places like hexbear and lemmygrad

theres people who’ve been on Lemmy longer than me and have spent time documenting some of the more insane mod actions and views of the .ml admins and Im gunna go find that right now
