Reminds me of some interview of Linus, where they showed another photo of his workspace. Linus said the first thing people usually notice is the standing desk (he was a bit of a trendsetter). The second thing they notice is the wall colour. They use the paint in mental hospitals. It has a calming effect on the human mind. (Goodness knows Linus needs all the chill he can get.)
I’m just one random nerdy trans girl. …Oh come on, you’ve been around fediverse, surely you’ve seen us around?

Yeah, you can get them from Ipkea, but note that it’s only available as flatpak from them.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Elon doesn't like committing crimes in a game. He would rather commit crimes irl...
11·10 days agoGame that was literally named after a crime involves doing crimes? I’m sure this came as a surprise to Elon, but I must say that I’m a seasoned video game enthusiast, so this wasn’t surprising to me at all.
(Also I never got too far into GTA5. Decided to instead go back to Saints Row. GTAs pretend to be super serious games while still being satirical at the core. Saints Row was basically ramping up wackiness constantly and being unapologetic about it.)
There’s two variants of Debian: Debian, and “damn, this distro is not as flexible as I’d like, I guess I should have just installed Debian in the first place”.
Just use #.
It was just an obscure character, toiling in the sidelines. Then Twitter happened.
MacGyver? My childhood hero? Oh what do I think about the series oh boy [5 hours of gushing omitted for brevity]
I have the DVD box right on the shelf in case I have a MacGyver emergency and need to watch MacGyver
Skyrim.
Oh yeah, the world is going to fear my stealth archery powers.
I’m in my 40s, and last time when I was at McD I saw some 20-somethings sitting at their table, looking at the liner notes of an AC/DC CD they had no doubt grabbed from the second hand store one block over.
I almost went over to say “oh wow, am I ever happy to see you kids enjoy classical music, eh?” but I didn’t, because this is Finland and talking to random people at McD is considered weird, of course.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•but seriously this fast food situation is getting out of control [Tommy Siegel]
4·21 days agoWhenever I order stuff at McDonald’s, it’s been over a femtosecond since my last visit, so the app has logged itself out. So I always need to sit down and re-login. With mandatory 2 factor authentication. No TOTP, of course, it sends the code to email.
Welcome to McDonald’s. Papers please.
I have seen a PS2, never had one. I’ve also seen an IBM PS/2.
(I have a PS1 somewhere, too. And the first computer I ran Linux on was an IBM PS/1.)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What have you completely stopped buying because the price has gotten ridiculus?
14·24 days agoI buy maybe one or two “full price” video games per year. And even then those are probably not exactly “AAA”. Buying tons of indie stuff though!
Got rid of most of the streaming services and I’m seriously considering dropping the few that remain. (I’d need to, ugh, call the support to cancel.) The free streaming service from the national public broadcaster is pretty amazing and I have a wall of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Everyone's asking, 'Who's Json?', but nobody's asking, 'How's Json?'
11·26 days agoName 3 UML diagrams
Class diagram, use case diagram and… What was the useless, barely readable evolution of flowcharts called again? Activity diagram?
and 3 architectures!
MOS 6502, amd64, and… I’ve never figured out the ARM naming scheme. AAAAAAarch64 or something?
Not long ago, I needed to quickly add a 4-line thing to my Ruby on Rails app on my Raspberry Pi. I was like, shit, I really can’t be arsed to mount the RPi over Samba to edit this stuff on VSCode on my Windows laptop to add like 4 lines. I don’t have vim, I can’t be arsed to check which vimlike I have at hand, I can’t be arsed to see if my Emacs setup has been customised for this RPi. So fuck it, Nano it is!
Stereotypes.
Americans are incredibly obsessed about which European countries their distant ancestors came from, even if they basically know nothing about these countries or how they are today.
Meanwhile, in Europe, friendly neighbour ribbing is alive and well. Everyone slings mud over the border, and it’s fine, usually, they’ll do the same to us, you see.
Oh lord my code is actively helping making AI worse.
I checked out, it has some of my repositories. They crawled this stuff in 2025 and they probably won’t update it. Whoever uses this dataset will have to deal with some super garbage, I tell ya.
I’m unemployed, I’m incredibly snarky at the recruitment posts. (This literally hasn’t changed in decades.) Right now I’m like “oh, they want Python programmers…? Good, I’m one. For web scraping tasks…? Okay that’s bullshit. Wait, this is an AI job post? The MBAs, drunk with their Vibe Coding power, thought they could feed the Machine, but lo, they were mistaken!!! For web scraping was a Dark Art.”
GNOME folks are like “well, before GNOME was even a thing, we had this application called The Gimp, and we kinda wish we didn’t call it that, so please don’t name your apps for laughs OK?”
The application most likely to cause confusion among True Gamers™ who got fed up with Windows.
(PRO TIP:
dolphinis the KDE file manager,dolphin-emuis what you really want. PRO TIP 2: To defeat the PulseAudio daemon, shoot at it until it dies)

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Seriously, every time I gotta be out the door. Just let me shut you down.
3·1 month agoWell, there’s a reason why I shut down my Windows laptop at least 30 minutes before I have to actually leave somewhere.
My biggest annoyance isn’t even Windows as such, but random applications that have auto-updaters that run when the app is closed. “Okay, time to go now.” “NO! I must update this app!! Do not stop this update or hideously evil data corruption will happen!!!” …there’s no excuse for this stuff. Just do it when starting the application.

Things have changed significantly since Super Mario Bros. was released. For example, vast majority of video games released these days feature no senseless violence toward turtles. Many even portray turtles in factual, chilly way! 🐢
