It blew mi mind today when i read that people work at Walmart AND collect food stamp. What is even the point of working if you can’t afford to live?

3·9 months agoWe walked and biked even skied to school in the winter. Some kids had quite the journey. Now my nephew is 8 and and there are like 20 cars waiting in front of the school, or the closest they can drive. They also complained that it’s pretty dangerous because of all the traffic, not realising that they are the traffic. No car would be there without them. It’s madness.

1·9 months agoWhen i watched season 6 i thought, yeah it’s kind of bad, but at least, i can always go back whenever i feel like and still enjoy the good episodes. It got worse and worse and by the end of season 7 i wasn’t really sure if i even wanna see the next season. When i did see it, i realised that i will probably never go back to watch it. I didn’t even know it was possible to retroactively ruin a show for me. It’s kinda impressive

1·9 months agoI was never super into it, i only watched it sonetimes when my girlfriend was watching it.
Aside from not finding it very funny to begin with, i never really got the premise. The whole show was the guy telling his children how he met their mother. Whenever he dated someone it was like: is it gonna be her?? Is it her?? And there was an on and off thing with the other main character. Omg is it her? But the children have to know the name of their own mother. So they know and he’s just telling them who he banged before he met their mother?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hot Take Time: What is a popular long-running franchise that just needs to stop?English
5·9 months agoImagine that. Two or three seasons for a tv show always srem like the sweet spot. Same with movies. Terminator, great. Terminator 2, even better. Terminator 3 to wherever we are now, what the fuck even is this?
I think a lot of people watch long lasting tv shows out of habit, not because they are good or holding up. Bob’s burger is the only exception i can think off, and maybe some other niche shows, if they are good they are good and if they have more to say, go ahead.
One of my favourite shows used to be community. I have the fondest memories watching it for the first time. Now every time i rewatch it i got reminded that only the first two seasons are really good, and then it just falls apart.

3·9 months agoI remember when skate 3 was released. It was the biggest sports game of the year. It outsold even FIFA. BUUUUUUUT, fifa fans are so deranged that they spend like 2 Billions in micro transactions that EA obviously spend all their efforts into making more FIFA and no more skate. Except now Skate. Obviously, and we all know how shit this turned out.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did it really used to be common for guys to go to a bar every night like in Cheers or The Simpsons?English
4·9 months agoNot drinking is not easy, especially that age. I stpped drinking when i was almost 30. I thought that’s just a thing that you’re not doing, no big deal. A lot of people find it VERY weird. You wouldn’t believe the conversations i had especially with drunk people. “You don’t drink? Like never?” “Never ever?” “But how?”
I had to literally explain to people what i do instead of drinking and how to order a water in a bar. Ot that a glass of wine is also alcoholic, that i know i can drink a beer and still drive, that one glass is okay, that i don’t care how “good” it is, that i don’t drink even if you don’t even taste the alcohol. It never ends. And just like religion, you can’t just say because it’s dumb and you’re kinda proof of it right now.

3·9 months agoMy dad’s friends often claim that’s what destroys restaurants. You can’t even go and get hammered and drive home.
Yeah, not drinking would be pure insanity, i could never. Imagine spending time with friends sober.
It is kinda crazy how different the times were. In the same documentary, they also touched on immigrants and how they also like to hang out in bars. One guy casually said something like: well i some people don’t hate these Spaniards, and some people just want them dead.

31·9 months agoI watched a documentary about “bar culture” in the 60es and 70es where i live. Shit was pretty wild. Dudes talked about going to the bar like people talk about video games these days. “Oh yeah, on a good week i’m here 40 to 48 hours” what doesn your wife think about it? “She’s not excited, but you know…”
