As other comments have said its by design. But there is a quirk if they used lemvotes to determine who the down voters were: it doesn’t seem to pick up downvotes by mbin users. For example, according to lemvotes I’ve never downvoted anything. This is demonstrably false :)

I agree that a standard should be applied outside of one particular context, but it seems a lot like Whataboutism if we start bringing up unrelated contexts without directly addressing the topic at hand.
About as much as the economy is affected by politics. I work in FinTech but with retirement in particular so fairly resilient to most political antics unless they greatly affect the economy or influence large swathes of people topause contribution and pull out their retirement asap.
