God this is too real. One place I worked loved to pick odd company wide metrics too. Instead of just like “profit”, 50% of our bonus would be determined by how low a % held stock was against revenue, globally… I worked in marketing. Needless to say the “bonus” did not motivate anyone.
That is a chicken.
That is my brain on drugs.
My brain on drugs is a chicken.
Weed makes me paranoid.

Dance. Started dancing (taking classes) at 350lbs 4 ½ months ago, still going now at 295lbs. Everything is sooo much easier. First exercise I really liked, improves my flexibility, strength, and cardio. And I feel mad sexy doing it.
Marketing is becoming increasingly work from wherever. Even with AI, demand for copywriting and written content is high, if you combine that with even moderate technical literacy (wordpress, html, adobe, etc.) and there is aways demand from smaller companies.
I have no degree in marketing, but got all the free certs from Google, Mailchimp, etc., signed up for some marketing focused newsletters to learn the buzz words and just started digging in and learning.
It can start as gig work if you can’t find an in-house job, and I definitely didn’t make great money, but it was survivable. And the skills open up other side projects like affiliate marketing, especially if you have a cool niche passion to share with the world.
I want to live a long and happy life, accomplish as much as I could expect to and love generously…
…and then that one scene from Final Destination 2 with the falling pane of glass.
Lurking… Wait crap!!
Sitting down with a good movie and a bowl of tide pods.
You are my hero, I looked for something like that but hadn’t found it. Thank you!
Any of the ads that have started autoplaying when I turn on my FireTV Cube. It pisses me of so much I’m actively avoiding the shows and movies they’re promoting.
I’m approaching 40 this year. Around 20, I missed an important uni deadline, and meant the degree I had planned would cost me an extra year I couldn’t afford (like literally couldn’t afford the tuition). Managed to finish, but with a degree no one would recommend. Was absolutely panicked.
Ultimately, ended up very successful in a job in a country on the other side of the world. Met the woman who is now my wife of 13 years, had some amazing adventures, moved to a few more different countries, changed industries again about 10 years ago, and worked my way up to upper management again before leaving that field too.
TL;DR No, stress has brought me nothing but misery, I have no regrets except that I didn’t enjoy the ride as much as I could have.
Learn new stuff as you work, or as hobbies (my entire second career started as a hobby). Don’t be afraid to “fake it till you make it” and keep an eye out for jobs you didn’t even consider as a possibility. I personally avoid corporate gigs, smaller independent companies are more likely to notice you and use you for the skills you bring. Life can fly by, enjoy the ride.
Your mileage may vary, but have you tried over the phone instead of video chat (if it’s an option where you live)? I felt exactly the same about video, but something about over the phone felt chill, I could just “chat with a friend” in my pajamas. Helped me a lot and neither my therapist or I ever actually saw each other.
My cat is adorable, but if she doesn’t know you she WILL cut a bish. We warn everyone who comes in, but the number of times we’ve had to intervene when a landlord’s agent, repairperson, etc was convinced they’d be the first stranger she liked… Look, but do NOT touch.
I love that the transcription has the correct labels for those of us who aren’t sparkies.
I tend to think of it like a personal trainer, “push, you got this, one more rep”. More positive and gender neutral.
