My sister thinks this way. It’s possible that she just has a lot fewer impairments than other people, and that makes it easier for her to pass. I try to convey that what might be easy for her could be incredibly difficult for other people.
This is the thing I worry about. I think it’s especially a problem for ADHD people. I can very easily imagine an autistic person who has been isolated and socially rejected being very worried about social judgement and rejection, so they end up participating in serious crimes out of fear of rejection.
I don’t think that having autism is necessarily a defense and on its own certainly doesn’t justify an insanity defense.
Obviously, most autistic are not likely to commit a serious non victimless crime. There are some crimes were autistic people are over represented, but on average they are less likely to commit violent crimes.
The empathy issue is complicated though. From what I understand, autistic people have more emotional empathy but less cognitive empathy. More cognitive empathy is also not always a good thing. Caring about other people can also lead to doing heinous things in the name of supposed compassion to people who are seen as perpetrators. It can also lead to evil acts that are seen as compassionate, such as euthanasia.
If you’re condition causes you impairment with how well you function and your overall mood, then it’s worth talking to a professional who can help you make changes that would be positive.
I’ve noticed that autism and ADHD have a lot of overlap but there’s also things that make them distinct.
I’ve encountered a lot of people with autism who aren’t remotely shy and can talk with other people fine.
That’s why I feel like there should be both systems. Possibly public and private healthcare, but with the additional requirement that everyone has to have health insurance. Otherwise there’s going to be too much of a problem with young people not getting insurance and not paying in. You’ll also have NEETs and neckbeards who work 12 hour weeks and aren’t paying anything in to the system.
There are a lot of things that they have to do, and they have to do them right with extremely little tolerance for error.
The Web has become the de facto method of accessing the internet for almost everything. Most people think of it as the internet.
A lot of people do critical stuff through web browsers, so if something on a website breaks because of the browser, it’s a huge problem.
Almost all wikis aren’t peer reviewed and they aren’t designed for it. It would also be a hard thing to pull off unless you have a very specific topic where a group of users can manage a relatively small number of articles.
I think it can be ok when you’re doing something boring or don’t have anything to do and can’t do anything else, but I don’t advise it at other times unless there’s a goal, like if it’s for introspective insight or you’re brainstorming. Time is the only resource you can’t get back.
This reminds me of “mirror people” in VR chat.
I’ve thought about that. Usually I just go down there and clean things up to keep the situation under control. I’ve also let things run away too much.
I recently listened to a former atheist talk about coming to an Islamic conclusion while on DMT about music being bad because it’s a cheap way of trying to replicate a spiritual experience, similar to the use of DMT for recreational use. It’s not always bad because in art it can be used to convey what the creator is trying to get across, but sitting around listening to music could certainly be negative. The guy said this in the video well, but engaging in mystical spiritual experiences for its own sake will ultimately lead nowhere and leads people to retreat into their own heads and accomplish nothing in the world and become reclusive.
This is an incredibly dumb idea. It will also die out for incredibly obvious reasons because everyone else will keep reproducing while antinatalists descend into irrelevancy.
Genesis 1:28 and al-Baqarah 2:187 instruct reproduction. Antinatalists are destined for the fire.
Abortion and euthanasia are going to lead to autistic people being murdered. Neo progressives already believe that disabled children should be aborted and atheists admit that “life begins some time after birth” meaning they openly support euthanasia up to age five in some cases. A lot of neo progressives think the most humane option for disabled children is abortion or euthanasia at a young age.
I suspect that my wife’s uncle has undiagnosed autism and he overcompensates for it. He would obsess about certain foods being connected with autism. He refused to ever eat at the same place more than once every few months and he threw a fit over the possibility of having a plain hamburger because he was overcompensating.
Active hearing protection is better for sudden noises and some of them have connections for aux cables but the speakers are low quality and they’re designed only to understand someone talking and that’s it.
My sister was diagnosed with autism before transitioning but she hasn’t “seemed autistic” since transitioning. I don’t know if it was a misdiagnosis of gender dysphoria or if it’s something that she really has. She is very fixated on trying to force other autistic people into passing so it makes sense that she would learn to hide it.
Can you explain this more?
He is not living a sustainable lifestyle and it’s going to catch up with him and he’s going to be miserable.
I see a lot of desire among people on the spectrum to do the easy thing and constant aversion to anything difficult. Living an easy life is going to bring nothing but misery. I have a friend with BPD who is miserable because he never leaves his comfort zone and leaves jobs as soon as they get remotely challenging. Grinding away the days by coming home and watching Netflix until you go to bed and work again is going to create misery.
If he’s so averse to dating that it causes him to pack up and leave, that’s better for me because then I don’t have to deal with the empathetic baggage of visualizing him growing into an 80 year old virgin and living alone with no friends and having never accomplished anything.
My sister was diagnosed with autism and she used to be a male incel.
This western philosophy of “just do whatever feels good” is satanic misguidance. It will lead to nothing but suffering and misery.
You’re setting yourself up for an extremely sad life if you are content with being isolated and “weird.” It might be fun right now for a few months where you take time for yourself and go home and take home fast food and watch Netflix, but that expires very fast. You don’t want to be a creepy, aloof 80 year old man who everyone assumes is a virgin. My sister was diagnosed with autism and used to be a creepy male virgin and she can’t stand people like that.
It might also depend on what kind of school it is.
Being more likely to be a victim and a perpetrator are not mutually exclusive.
I think the crimes most likely to be committed by autistic people are prohibition related or possibly violent crimes that happen in the heat of the moment.
On average though autistic people probably aren’t more likely to commit crimes.
