Don’t let it get you down. You need to remember that this whole AI hype / AI will replace everyone is coming from people who invested a lot of money into it and really need it to succeed now.

Many also have an oversimplified view of what the discipline of software engineering includes in addition to little understanding how different types of AI work.

Besides, skillsets you learned in SE can easily applied to other ‘non-virtual’ fields. Many people suck at providing clear and specific instructions or requirements; businesses also have many real world processes that need to be optimized; identifying problems in a system (you first need to see there is an issue, if you want to ask an AI to fix it for you in the next step); being able to break down and tackle large, complex topics; … I could probably come up with many more points.

I did find such a booklet actually yes. If I would have known this before I would not have booked the stay here either, I did not consider this is something to do a backround check on when choosing a hotel to be honest.

Update:

So I checked via Wifi/Cell without VPN just on the phone and then youtube says the uploader did not make the video available in this country or skips it entirely, so I guess my original thought about the hotel actively cencoring something is wrong.

I did not know some casting services just load the video via the device you cast to itself. So if you are travelling you kinda really have to watch directly on your own devices only to get around geblocking I guess.

I have my home server behind a wireguard vpn access.

While I am no security expert, or precisely because of that, I still try to follow security best practices for the internal setup if I can.

Of course you propably do not have to be as vigilant as if your services were publicly exposed. But I believe it is still a good idea to have some “defence in depth” and not assume only one possible attack vector, e.g. what if there already is a bad actor on your home network maybe via a trusted device that has some virus. Also a plus is i guss if you ever decide to expose something later on you wont have as many issues.

This is so true sadly. Talked to some friends irl who truly believe that one day they could also become a billionaire. They don’t even own a company. I think many have no concept of this number. It always surprises me how many are confused about which ‘team’ they are in and who their allies really are.
