While a ship, the Lexx was primarily designed as a weapon that could destroy planets, so I’ll go for The Lexx.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do You Only Use Lemmy Or Do You Use Another Fediverse Thing And Why Did You Become A Fediverse/Lemmy Use?
2·2 days agoI just recently joined Lemmy; never had a redditt account. Have been using Mastodon for quite a few years now; only ever dabbled in twitter. I like that the fedi stuff seems more organic and less manipulated by algorithms, although, that also makes it easy to miss stuff as well. Still getting a feel for Lemmy and discovering interesting communities. My ultimate social platform was Google Reader (still miss my sharebros/gals. My primary social media after the demise of GR was the comment section, BBS, of BoingBoing – we had a mass departure after the publisher did some petty bans (started our own discourse instance)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What movie terrified you as a child? Or what character?
2·3 days agoDon’t be Afraid of the Dark (1973) scared the crap out of young me… The little creatures lurking in the dark and dragging them away. My older sister reinforcing the fear with stories/teasing didn’t help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don’t_Be_Afraid_of_the_Dark_(1973_film) I’m sure it would be laughable now, but my sister really knew how to push my buttons.
I’m just happy when I go to a site and all the source for the page is 1st party.
I saw it yesterday with just a “4” pointing to the little piece.
Looks exactly like my Ollie… He’ll be back, but will probably poke my face with his cold wet nose before settling back down between my feet.
When I was in first grade, a second grader had a coconut that was still in the husk… He convinced a lot of us that it was a bat egg. He would put it up to your ear and scratch the other side and tell you that was the baby bat getting ready to hatch.
Whenever there is some viral story about some youtube/ticktock celebrity.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some idioms that no longer make sense? Can you think of a modern replacement?
2·5 days agoAlways love idioms from other languages. Had a book called “Idioms Delight” that explored equivalents from several different cultures/languages.

3·5 days agoTulsi (Holy Basil): Has just enough anti-anxiety properties to quiet the inner voice that keeps me up at night.
Sugar is great for when I’m sleepy in the afternoon (good strong black licorice is a good complimentary to that, since it seems to keep my blood sugar from dropping in the first place)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats your favorite book? EDIT: apologies I don’t respond to your recommendations but I highly appreciate the community hooking me up with good reads. Stay lit with literature. <3
2·6 days agoTwo favorites that I reread several times in my teens/twenties/thirties that I was recently thinking about:
-
“Geek Love” by Katherine Dunn
-
“At the sign of the naked waiter” by Amy Herrick
-
Mom told me that dragonflies would sew my mouth shut.
Was afraid of them until I was at least 6 or so…

I keep my cash between the pages of my pocket notebook.

Up until my mid-teens I ate almost all the same thing, but then I made a decision to try to be open to trying to eat new things and never stopped.
