Fred Rogers (of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood). For my generation, he helped to shape our views on kindness and compassion for humankind. He fought for public access funding in the United States. He helped break color barriers on television. He helped us enjoy jazz.

I have not encountered another media personality who was so genuinely invested in making sure that kids had the tools they needed to deal with the emotional parts of existence. I’m tearing up again thinking about how much he did for us.

Off the top of my head, vi came out in the late 70s (though it might have been a little while later before you could start editing directly through vi)

To be fair, GPS apps have some limitations that can cause this at times. I’d love it if an early voice alert could tell me if an exit is on the left or right side of the highway or how the exit split is organized way in advance of it happening.

Went to a mediocre high school in the US, and I had an English/writing course where the only materials were the Aeneid, Illiad, Odyssey, and Mythology by Edith Hamilton.

So when Gandalf said “fly, you fools” to the fellowship, he was ordering them to sprout wings and fly away?

Either ambient instrumental music (lots of Brian Eno) or any music that I know all the words to (so that my brain doesn’t have to actively process the lyrics).

A great album. I’d probably put IKSSE3 barely above it since it was my entry point to Coheed (you never forget your first).

Agreed. For an example of station id happening at slightly off times, listen to a live sports broadcast (like baseball). Due to the shorter time between pitches, station id will instead happen between batters, which won’t line up with any given time.

Same thing with hockey, where radio station id will happen when the clock stops.
