Edit - that was a bit too bleak. There are a lot of doctors trying their best to retain humanity in a system aimed at destroying it. The whole med school journey is aimed at weeding the people out who are just in it for the money. It’s designed to gatekeep the industry to require a massive amount of passion to get your foot in the door. But the realities of the industry do their best to squash that.

The oligarchs would not be able to prevent it. They might hold the political power, but the military order to launch the nukes comes directly from Putin. The best we could hope for is conscientious officers refusing the order.

When modding the syringe, I find it easiest to remove the plunger, and using a drill bit from the inside that is slightly smaller than this inside diameter of the syringe. 1/32" leaves enough of a lip to still stop the plunger in my experience, but YMMV depending on the plunger style.

We had a 5ml syringe with a fully plastic plunger (no rubber) that was amazing. Eventually lost it and haven’t been able to find a replacement yet, but rubber tipped plunger are fine too, just wear out faster.

BTW as an elder cat caretaker, if he stops eating hit meds willingly (which can easily happen if his condition flares up), we have had amazing success with cutting the tip off a syringe, loading it with canned food and front loading the tip with their pills.

When cutting the tip, leave a tiny bit of material so the plunger still stops, but not so much that the pill gets jammed.

3/4 of our cats actually open their mouths willingly to be pilled because they only taste the food, the pill is swallowed without them noticing.

I have an oddly relevant story.

My wife and I got to do a “swimming with a capybara” experience. My wife forgot about the instructions to not wear anything dangly because the capybara may play with it.

Well, she wore a bikini top that had a big bow in the front.

That capybara motorboated my wife like he was Vince Vaughn after a dry spell.

I just turned to the other (horrified) guests, shrugged, and said I didn’t blame him.

You just described a somewhat progressive leaning liberal.

You believe that the government should stay our of our homes, socially. Progressives have been leading that charge for decades, and moderates have been on board for a while now.

You believe in universal Healthcare and income. Those are very progressive ideals. Those are about as anti libertarian as it gets, because they take away a lot of “individual” freedom, because to fund that, roughly half of your income will need to go to taxes. Maybe more, I haven’t looked at the numbers in a long time, but plenty of current examples to pick from.

You believe in industrial regulation to combat bad actors when necessary. That is a general liberal ideal.

Nothing besides keeping the government away from your personal life is even marginally libertarian. And that’s pretty much the only overlap between libertarianism and liberalism.

This is all from a U.S. point of view.

Wanting you to have a stable career as well as a passion hobby are not incompatible. It’s when you want to make your passion hobby your profession, when the chances are extremely low of being successful, that you get conflict.

I don’t know anything about your relationship, but it’s likely the negativity comes from a place of wanting you to have a comfortable, practical life.

There’s a bunch of very active non-ml users that always turn any political discussion to “both sides are terrible, don’t vote for genocide”.

Once you start recognizing names (or blocking), it gets less depressing. But it does feel like there are a lot more fascist enablers in the political communities than there really are, just because of how fervent those few users are.

Tildes might work for you. Politics is a banned subject, but you’ll get polite discourse on most subjects.

I found it stifling, personally. But if you like overly verbose, overly polite discussions where all opinions are respected as long as it’s long winded and politely communicated, well, that’s your place.
