It’d be kinda funny if Dolly made the US go tits up.
I’ve always suspected the US is uniquely susceptible to the worse effects of climate change and a changing world.
Population too spread out to make public transport or cycling viable in the event of fuel shortages or distribution problems. Electricity also has to travel longer distances. Too reliant on AC, rather than passive insulation. A problem when fuel shortages and heat are combined.
And you’re taking too long to go full in on renewables. For example, even ignoring the environmental benefits, solar panels are great at reducing power consumption when its hot/sunny. Hell, on a sunny day it’s possible for a house to be giving back to the power grid, even with the AC on full.
Europe’s also fucked, but at least the houses are well insulated, and solar adoption and AC use is skyrocketing. So when cities as far north as Paris hit 50C(122F) by 2050, as is possible assuming an unfortunately plausible 3.5C global warming, the number of deaths won’t be catastrophic.
Of course, once agriculture’s hit, shit’s going to hit the fan globally. We’ll get a taste of this in the coming year. Farmers have been suffering badly from climate change, high fuel prices, and high fertiliser prices also due to Hormuz.
But only in America. Outside America, we continue to pretend that we’re somehow different, a comforting lie we tell ourselves. Like children who think a night light will keep away the monsters. But outside through shadow of the setting sun, they steal past the windows of the blissfully dead, looking for the victim shivering in bed. Creeping closer now, closer to the foot of the bed.

Honestly, at 45 with a very patchy CV because I was forced to become a full time carer more than once (fuck cancer), I’m probably fucked.
Feel like I might as well flush my degrees down the toilet. Luckily I live in Europe, so I didn’t have to go into a huge amount of debt for them.
That’s life I suppose. Sticking around for the life ending asteroid Hollywood has promised us.

If it pays ok, why not volunteer?
You get to socialise, you get to feel a part of your community, you get to feel like you’re making a difference, etc.

The problem is that when graphics become to realistic, you enter the uncanny valley, which makes things seem off.
IME it’s better when they (slightly) stylise the graphics, which makes the game look less realistic, but you weirdly end up noticing it less.

It’s/its is also common mistake with non-native speakers.
The really obvious one is using of instead of instead of have. Would of. Should of. Could of. From would’ve, should’ve, could’ve. Non-native speakers will rarely if ever make that mistake.

Very annoying.
And they take up almost no space, so that makes it even more annoying. I make sure to keep seeding as much as possible.

I think I have that among my torrents. 33 seeders.
Maybe you’re still seeding a torrent that’s no longer as popular.

Disc rot is also a thing.
I find it’s best to accept entropy, that you’re going to die, that everything ends, that you will lose data, that there will be a last time you watch a movie or show, and keep running those ssd/hdds even when they’re in the yellow/red warning zone.
Years back I was sorting through ten years of emails. I got so sick of it, I simply deleted everything. You know what? No drawbacks even ten years later. Such a huge relief.
Reminds me of the artist Michael Landy who chucked everything he owned - pictures, clothes, artwork, his passport - into a shredder. Performance art, reaction against consumerism. He was understandably miserable doing it, but what a relief that must have been. To be free of all the crap. It is true that the things you own often end up owning you.
My grandparents hoarded all their lives, and after they died much of what they owned ended up in a skip, because there wasn’t enough time or interest to sell it. The supposedly priceless porcelain? Chucked. All the records? Sold. Furniture? Goodwill. The huge supply of sunlight soap? Really useful actually.

Curate, is my advice.
I occasionally go through and cull the worst shows and movies. No point keeping mainstream crap that’s readily available on all the streaming sites.

How often do you see your mother?

Poorly designed button. Wrong colour and too much information. Green and “Download Here” would have been better.

Sure, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want GTA6 to be fun if I can pirate it.

I wonder if GTA 6 will be any good.
Previous entries still had an edge, but I worry that GTA online has ruined them. I assume most of the people who created the previous games are all gone too.

Keep seeding the rare shit please.
I know people go on about ratios and yadayada, but the popular stuff will always have seeders, seeding popular stuff is just helping people download quicker.
Seeding the rare shit means that torrent continues to exist.
So much stuff has been lost forever and a large part of that is torrents no longer having seeders.

What do you think all those dual cassette decks were for?
So you could make friends a copy or copy friends’ music.
Perfectly acceptable at the time. Only an issue if you were selling them, but even then not a huge issue.
