  • I mean, sure but Dems only really have a chance because Republicans continue to run the shuttiest candidates imaginable. That is absolutely true

Like, Obama won partly because McCain chose to run with Palin. It’s not the only reason he won, but it’s silly to think it wasn’t a major factor - especially considering everything we know about white American voters, that’s been made just as clear as it ever could be. I bet it was a tough decision for some/many Americans

I’ve always wished I could feel like the choice in a general election was a hard decision, but alas I’m working class and brown (and believe in science)

  • Thanks for the great ideas!

I’ve given a sampler of tea a try in the past but I’ll admit I don’t recall whether I paid attention to things like oversteeping. I just put some honey, or later stevia, in it. lol

I’m going to try “splurging” on a fancy cup of coffee and a fancy tea from a reputable place at some point to figure this out

  • Glad it wasn’t too bad for you/y’all.

Unfortunately, I wiped my computer Thursday night before our company mentioned anything. lol. I ended up finding out about the issue on Lemmy/Reddit. My company didn’t send anything out until this morning - which I still find insane, my laptop crashed and started looping around 7p (took them like 12 hours).

My laptop just rebooted while I was working so I assumed some program I’d installed caused it (explorerpatcher). I tried everything, safe mode, system restore, uninstall updates. I figured the only option left was to reinstall windows. Done it plenty of times on my personal PC

Oh well, lesson learned. Shit’s totally fucked now. It won’t even connect to the Internet. lol. Definitely a Monday problem though

  • If that’s your level of understanding, I would say you don’t really need to be paying more attention. You should just understand your specific level of ignorance and recognize that you’ll need to defer to the opinions of experts on whatever topic you hear about in the future.

If you refuse to learn about current events, and more importantly the context of those events in history and so on, then you have no choice but to trust experts that know more than you. In this context, expert means people that study/work in a field their entire life and are backed by the larger community of experts - that is to say, they’re not at risk of losing their license or being removed from their employer/academic institution.

  • They also have therapy tiktok/yt. I can’t imagine the headstart some of them are getting in terms of understanding and dealing with the issues they/everyone faces. That’s something legit incomparable to anything that came before, imo.

Granted, I have no idea the ratio of younger folks on therapy-/book-tok verses on those crazy conspiracy and new age/spiritual stuff.

  • Thanks, that was helpful. I appreciate you expanding on that.

I’ve been increasingly interested in psychology, especially as it relates to therapy and human development. I’d definitely seen the term psychoanalysis in some places but thinking back it’s definitely been in sources that are on the more “esoteric” side.

I’ll take a better look at the wiki page, but in your opinion do you think there’s anything of substance worth looking for in old “research” done by Freud and Jung? Should it just serve as history now?

Like, is the concept of a “shadow” useful even as a kind of metaphor? Or, is it better to just read the latest research in psychology and therapy to really understand what’s going on in our heads?

  • Idk about gay Jesus. lol. But I love the idea of that as a possiblity!

Him being killed for heresy makes sense to me. That said, my understanding is all the gospels about Jesus were written long after his death. It’s totally possible he was killed like all the rest and the majority of the narrative was written after and heavily romanticized. It was then updated, as needed, to advance different political goals.

I’d never heard anything about disagreements with Epicureans, or much about them in general. Any books/links you could recommend on the subject? I’m currently reading the Dark Side of Christian History by Ellerbe and it’s great! The lengths the Church went to solidify its political power is kind of hard to comprehend. It’s crazy how little most people know about something that’s still so influential.
