This checks out with some of the casts I’ve seen of Korean Starcraft players.

I’d settle for “Not the worst year”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts on "Don't Chase, Attract."?
1·3 months agoIt maybe depends on the particular culture/context around you. When I was growing up I was usually in explicitly Christian contexts, so it was probably more repressive than what some people experience. I think that toxic masculinity is pretty widespread, though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts on "Don't Chase, Attract."?
3·3 months agoI think the issue there is that male friendships in general and especially with females are culturally discouraged.
My personal experience might be taken with a grain of salt because I’m a trans female (and my wife clocked that before she started dating me, even though I didn’t realize it myself until later), but from my personal experience being raised as a male I had very few friendships with girls and women and I never dated until I developed a close friendship with the woman who is now my wife. She expressed interest in dating me, and eventually we committed to it.
So, I think that breaking that cultural norm and encouraging men to have more friendships would help a lot.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm new to lemmy, came from reddit. What's the lemmy etiquette like? How different is it from reddiqutte?
89·4 months agoKarma on reddit tracks the accumulated likes and dislikes a user has gotten on all of their posts. Lemmy does not have a number like that.
Edit: What this means in practice is that on Reddit there are some users who make a lot of low-effort posts to get that karma number to go up and get a sense of accomplishment from that (even when they get a negative reputation among the other users), whereas on Lemmy that’s not really a thing. Lemmy has power-users that become well-known, but they’re more well-liked because they aim to gain actual reputation instead of just farming a karma number.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do humans enjoy petting animals?
3·4 months agoBlahaj!
I would just call him a child rapist. IMO that actually sounds worse than “pedophile” because you could apply the latter to someone who was attracted to minors but didn’t rape any.
Regardless of his attraction, he raped children, so he’s a child rapist.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-US Lemmings, how is Christmas celebrated where you are?
7·4 months agoThat’s a narrower time period than the US. A decent number of people have Christmas decorations up already in the US, and Christmas stuff has been in stores for a while already.
The air at my workplace could definitely use more humidity.

35·4 months agoReminds me of the time Google decided that “Don’t be evil” wasn’t their vibe any more.
That sounds like it wouldn’t appeal to me as much.
I’m not particularly interested in ARC Raiders because I don’t like the chaos of FFA (or more than 2 teams in general).
I never played any of the earlier BF games, only One (Which I didn’t care for), 2042, and 6.
For what it’s worth, cheating in BF6 seems pretty rare. So, it seems that something they’re doing is having an effect at reducing cheating. There are probably other methods that they could use, though.
I’m guessing that their decision ultimately comes down to money - they probably figure that other methods would be more expensive to achieve the same result, and that the lost revenue from people who are turned off by the anti cheat is less than that cost.
I almost always am playing games with friends, so it depends on what they want to play as well. We generally rotate through different games at different times, and the choice depends on what we can find that everyone would enjoy. It can already be hard to do that sometimes, so removing more options could make it worse.
Battlefield 6 is one of the ones we have been playing recently, so that one would require Windows (at least as a dual boot option). It’s also hard to know what games might be the group preference in the future.
Regardless of how you see those things or what they actually do, it’s basically certain that the developers do not see them as malware. And I think it’s reasonable to assume good intentions in making those choices, because it is a PvP game where cheating can negatively impact other players. I would give them the benefit of the doubt regarding their intentions.
Many of the things that the Helldivers 2 devs have done could be excused with the benefit of the doubt as well, but they have stacked up a lot of broken promises, and recently there was a case of very blatant deception. It could be argued that it was not technically lying, but it was obviously intended to deceive. And there has been no apology for the deception since then, either.

I suppose that’s probably a way of calling them a baby?
