  • When I was around 14 I tried listening to the bible on audio book, couldn’t even make it past genesis (or the one after?) because of how terrible the writing was.

Like, bible, I don’t want to hear the entire fucking lineage of every single character you’re introducing. Appendices would have been much appreciated.

Never tried again because I was an edgy 14 year old atheist who was only doing it to be able to “win” arguments on the topic.

Ahh to be a hormonal teenager…

  • I haven’t read much on the topic, so forgive me for my ramble:

I agree with this sentiment. And find myself particularly cringing to people I agree with, espousing something as a FACT, as a part of their argument.

To me, science (my personal philosophy) is the best way we have to determine what is likely to be true, and the best way we have to describe the world in which we live.

When people start saying things like “and that’s a FACT” like it somehow makes their position more credible, annoys me greatly.

Getting ahead of the semantics, I don’t have an issue with the word itself, as being “something true”. Just that when people use it as something being self-evident. And I see it happening a lot, even with people saying something I agree with.

  • “it’s like, they only took the best ideas, and then only improved on those ideas after adding them into their society!”

Yikes 💀 I wonder if they really paid attention to all the slavery, patriarchy, oligarchy, incest (the whole, you’re not related unless it’s on your father’s side thing), genocide, etc lol

I find it interesting because there is a lot about Roman society that’s more recognisable today than in the middle ages, the politics is exciting, and yeah, the organisation of the military is also fascinating.

But I’m glad to not have yet met anyone who actually admires the Roman Empire. They were barbaric and cruel, often by ancient standards.

  • Naps are not recommended by sleep psychologists if you are someone who has trouble falling asleep at night anyway, unless you are extremely fatigued, and in those cases, the earlier in the day the better so you can recharge your sleep drive before night.

But yeah, I too wish I could give myself an actual refresh during the day with a siesta, but alas no.

I am not a sleep psychologist and this isn’t medical advice, second-hand info.

  • While I know that these days, bugs in code can cause real-world harm (personal info leaks, superannuation records lost, lol google), I find it humorous to think of the equivalent, even worse outcomes in my discipline (chemical/process engineering).

“Didn’t do any checks, fuck it, I know this calculation is fire 🔥”

    Later: 🔥🔥💥
