Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something about another culture than your own that you like?
2·22 days agoNot used at all. It’s even weird to see anyone do it outside of formal texts.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something about another culture than your own that you like?
1·22 days agoUnsure if it’s the reason for it in Spain, but in parts of Argentina (and surely other places in LatAm too) it’s simply too hot to do anything in the afternoon, so life happens earlier in the morning and later at night

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever met an actual dumb person?
1·3 months agoIdk what to tell you, I still have that stove, it works just fine, I still need a lighter. Most I’ve seen in my life are like that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever met an actual dumb person?
121·3 months agoI used to date this girl that was beautiful, sex was incredible, but was dumb as a rock. I could and should’ve been better about not wanting a relationship with her, but it’s besides the point now.
I really wondered if she was a functional adult. My favorite and most extreme memory is asking her to heat some water in the kettle, and 5 seconds later thinking “she won’t be able”. So I silently went to the kitchen, watched her try, fail, and turn around with a wet puppy face saying “I can’t do it”. There’s nothing weird about my stove. Gas, a lighter or a match and that’s it. Countless people did it before and afterwards, I don’t even have a clue how she failed.
I’ve met more stupid people, and it normally ranges from “I don’t want to hear anything from this guy ever again” to “how the fuck are you still alive?”. Most of the time, people aren’t actually stupid but simply lack education.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is chess the most frustrating game to lose in?
1·3 months agoReally depends on your Elo, I got tilted a lot more at lower Elo. To me, Elo hell is real and it sucks because too many opponents cheat, others play random moves which you know suck but don’t know how to punish yet, others simply had the best game of their life and other do suck like people at low ELO do, but you won’t get much enjoyment out of them
Personally, I assume the receptor will interpret the message in the best way possible. It’s hardly at all possible to say something that can’t be taken the wrong way if the receptor is keen on starting a fight.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why would anyone doordash food from a place that already does delivery?
3·4 months agoLocal version of DD works this way: they refund always the first time, but they keep track of user’s behavior. So, after a few months using the app, it’s quite obvious who is more likely to be at fault.
Some drivers actually require a code to give you your order, and that’s because they have messed up previously.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who have used dating apps before, what was your experience like?
6·8 months agoEvery time I used tinder it was a success. Got many few night stands and 2 girlfriends from it. I attribute my success to 2 things:
- city size. At around 1.5M is the ideal size. More than that, and it’s hard to be seen. Less than that, there may not be enough people.
- Learn how to make a good profile and understand it’s a numbers game.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is an artist or public figure you still enjoy despite them being cancelled for bad behaviour?
2·8 months agoHardly anyone will know it because it’s an Argentinian band. Bersuit Vergarabat. The former singer is an extremely machist asshole, but damn the band was so much better back then.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Fellow 'Fediversers,' what keeps you hanging on here despite the "FV" being a work-in-progress, with all its built-in, various bumps & difficulties to experience along the way?
7·10 months agoExpanding on this, because you have said almost the same I was thinking, I feel AI slop and bots aren’t really a thing here, or they are easy to filter.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what questions do you have but don't feel you can ask trans people?
15·1 year agoDon’t you think transitioning reaffirms gender roles and stereotypes? I’m probably missing something, but why isn’t being a really effeminate man enough, that there’s the need to take hormones and change your pronouns?

Finally a question I can answer!
I was 16 and had forgotten my house keys. My parents weren’t inside, my grandmother was but she couldn’t hear the bell ringing at all.
Now, I had faced this issue a few times and most of the times I simply broke in through the roof, but this time, for whatever reason I didn’t want to do it. Checked my phone, out of battery or some other reason I couldn’t use it.
So the next best thing I came up with was ringing my neighbor and asking for his phone to call my grandma to open the door for me. He was an elderly man so I thanked him a lot for the favor.
He passed away that night, all the coincidences and my apparent free will were to give him tons of words of gratitude. I know it’s not spooky, but I can’t accept it as a mere luck.
