No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are people speculating that the most recent Trump assassination attempt was fake?
1·5 days agoSomething involving Israel. In my country at least, people who hyper focus on Israel tend to have a lot going on. Expressing any opinion on the issue always leads to controversy and drama. It’s best just not to have an opinion.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are people speculating that the most recent Trump assassination attempt was fake?
5·6 days agoIt’s not particularly plausible. If you want to stage a shooting, you’d either kill the “shooter” or avoid capturing them.
… regardless, another theory is that this is hate spamming. Alot of these poorly implemented misinformation campaigns serve no purpose other than to torment a person or organization. The lemmy administrators did recently get into a spat with someone who seems…motivated and unique.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are people speculating that the most recent Trump assassination attempt was fake?
6·6 days agoThere seems to be a coordinated effort to push this theory. I don’t know if it’s strictly Lemmy or if it’s also on Facebook and Reddit as well.
It’s hard to say exactly what they are trying to accomplish. Do they want to actually convince other people that it’s a conspiracy, or do they want to give the impression that lots of people believe in a conspiracy? I couldn’t say.

5·7 days agoCanada has aboot 40 million people, the UK has about 70 million, Australia has 30 million, and New Zealand (5 million) is basically a rounding error. Since the US has over 300 million people, other English speakers tend to migrate to primarily US platforms.
What I find most interesting about these statistics is the difference in population density between the UK and the USA. Although the US is ~40 times larger, it only contains 7x more people.
It’s controlled by a government. A government that has trillions of dollars worth of real assets isn’t nearly as safe or secure as digital currency backed by the block chain. It has been scientifically proven that human imagination is infinite. Bitcoin going to the moon isn’t an assumption, it’s a fact.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I "too woke" for thinking the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic is disgusting?
319·11 days agoI agree that it’s not fair to compare Michael Jackson to Epstein. Although both engaged in illegal activities, a 16 year old at least has the ability to say, “No, I will not give you a handjob for $200.” The seven and eight year olds Michael abused didn’t have the ability to walk away.
It’s similar to murder charges. Although a highschooler is legally a child, they are still culpable enough for their actions to be tried as an adult. The children Michael targeted would not. The worse part of this situation is that parents voluntarily gave him their children. They should have been tried and investigated.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•[meta] Please ban comics by bigoted artists
22·18 days agoYeah, I don’t get it. If the two examples linked above are his most offensive content, then this is a pretty low bar to ban someone. If the target of the criticism was priests or bankers, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
Giving a demographic special treatment can turn indifference into resentment; it is not a path towards acceptance or equality.
? My stance on ADHD and amphetamine use isn’t political. Unfortunately, the history of ADHD is personal to me. Shire released their first amphetamine product within a few months of Perdue’s release of oxycontin. They used similar tactics to increase their userbase and bribed the same public officials.
…~10% of children in the united states either have taken or are taking amphetamine for a disease that didn’t really exist prior to the release of Adderall. This doesn’t seem fishy to you? Giving one of the most abusable psychoactives to a child is unlikely not to have an impact on their development.
The genius of an ADHD diagnosis is that it has a strong overlap with the side effects of long-term amphetamine use. It takes decades of research to prove harm, and even then it’s tricky. Still, It’s only a matter of time before it blows up into a Perdue level scandal. It’s why Shire sold their patent; it’s a liability issue.
I feel bad for the people dependent on amphetamine. Once the government cracks down on excessive and unethical prescriptions, a lot of people are in for a long withdrawal period. It took me a few years to learn how to function without it; I couldn’t have done it willingly.
Dig into Shire Pharmaceutical. You might find the relationship between their marketing/lobbying, the DSM-IV, and the rate of ADHD diagnosis disturbing. As things stand right now, the diagnostic criteria are vague to the point where every child meets the definition of having this disorder.
…ill leave it at this. There is a reason Shire sold their highly profitable Vyvanse to Takeda Pharmaceutical before the patent expired. If amphetamine disappeared off the face of the earth, the rate of diagnosis would plummet.

21·20 days agoThe rotten egg analogy makes more sense. Each egg is completely sealed off from the others in the group. Since the shell is only permeable to gasses, one spoiled egg will not spoil the bunch.
The addictiveness of a drug is actually a quantifiable metric. In the early 20th century, scientists exposed hundreds of drug naive individuals to different psychoactive compounds. Although there are individual differences, something like half of the people exposed to intravenous heroin and methamphetamine would actively seek out the next hit.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do we reduce toxicity on the Fediverse, and on the wider internet?
3·24 days agoIf we block and ban everyone that thinks differently from us, we can create a utopian paradise where everyone thinks the same. This might go on for years-decades maybe-until Elon Musk perfects his Neurolink protocol. At that point we will merge our thoughts, creating the ultimate Unity.
There will be no more hunger, no more pain. Dissent will be unthinkable. We will become…One.

23·25 days agoI feel as though people in 3rd world countries will be hit the hardest. Most of the jobs in first world countries can already be done much, much cheaper by foreign workers. Although we could outsource everything, it feels like we give people jobs just to keep people busy.
In the next two decades, I’m convinced that the countries that can’t afford to invest in AI and automation will be hit the hardest. The value of their work will be reduced, and richer nations will not freely share the technology.
…it was my point about world hunger. Things are set up to where the global poor have just enough money to by food and shelter. Their low wages are why people in my country have such a high standard of living.

These are first world problems. Personally, I work for a few years before taking a a couple years off. I’ve did the math, and I need like 20-30 hours to maintain my standard of living. As long as I buy a house and save a few decades of taxes, I don’t need much for a reasonable retirement. I’ll probably buy a house big enough to turn part of it into an apartment.
I see myself as Benjamin Button. I might as well take my retirement when I’m young. I’ll probably get killed in a car accident or something.
