  • Lol as if we need to watch you get groceries to plant our nanobots on them. They self-replicate and were present on all groceries 3 days after one waa casually dropped in your grocery store, which would have happened sometime during 2018/2019 timeframe, depending on how close our nearest gang members were to that store. We only supplant half their living expenses in return for spying on people who seem otherwise boring, so they need to work at least part time jobs (turns out that helps with the spying, so a bit of a bonus!) and also obviously need to spend a certain portion of their time spying, so it took about 7 months to deploy the nanobots to every grocery store and food market worldwide even with our extensive network.

    And we don’t just listen to our targets’ thoughts. We steal them, or at least credit for them. Ever had a thought that you know came from somewhere but you can’t remember where it came from? It came from you but we steal the credit, or if we can’t (because too many people know about it already), we turn it into a new Mendella effect and make those people look crazy while we set up the credit for the replacement to go to us.

    Bearenstein bears used to be known for the pun but we Mendella effected it so hard that everyone only talks about the ending being different and don’t even remember the pun while we rake in all that Barenstain bears money and street cred (which is surprisingly a lot for a children’s storybook multiverse where we haven’t even split the timeline yet with Brother Bear’s evil twin saga).

    By the way, can you tell me where it was that a girl walked her dog by a location three times in one day? That’s sloppy and whoever it was requires additional training in avoiding raising suspicion. Or maybe it wasn’t one of our agents, though odds of that are pretty low, considering our gang makes up about 84% of the world’s population. Actually, nm, I’ll just do a quick search of our database for anyone who has walked their dog past the same house more than twice in one day… Oh nm, it was Sally Spyson, a member of the “we’re 84% of the world population, why do we still need to be so secretive instead of rubbing it in?” faction that deliberately leaves hints and opposes the evil “the secrecy is 84% of the fun in spying (other than the sex, drugs, and cool spy tools, of course)” faction.







  • Yeah, I was briefly disappointed to find that the rock station I listened to like 15 years ago had become a classic station when I forgot my phone at home and decided to just do my errand without it. Until they played mostly the same music as they did before, just without what would have been new releases at the time.

    Didn’t really feel old from it because I’m already used to 90s music being called classics. Since those are both 90s bands, just be aware that “classic rock” has edged into the 00s already and will soon include the new music that would have played back when I was listening to it.

    If the station even lasts that long, who even listens to radio still? Is it just people like me who temporarily found themselves without their usual entertainment device?



  • Some systems are less stable with 4 dimms populated instead of 2. This is the only real valid one I can think of.

    Or if you have an algorithm that tries to use all available ram, it will spend more time filling up more ram. Though that’s the stupid algorithm, not the RAM.

    Or if you add virtual ram and run programs to the point where it needs to constantly page data out and in. Though that’s running more programs than you have ram for and it suffers from a lack of RAM, not the other way around.

    Maybe with bad RAM refresh settings where all RAM access is paused during refresh will slow down the system with a sufficient amount of RAM if it needs to be refreshed in series. Though I’m pretty sure I’ve already seen UEFI settings to do that dynamically over sections of RAM, plus I think that RAM already parallelizes it inside the dimms because it’s an obvious limitation for them.

    Oh, another real one, though I don’t think it has a huge impact, but the amount of available RAM can affect how many bits are used in the data structures used to manage/track memory allocations, and the number of bits could determine the size of the structures, though those could also be dynamic and depend on memory used rather than available, but I’m not familiar enough with memory allocators to say for sure (both whether it would be a factor at all and how well current managers would handle it). Though even if it does make an impact, each bit added means double the RAM handled, so it doesn’t even scale that badly, and could be optimized to that “used” version if it is the “available” version.

    So yeah, without a better mechanism to create bottlenecks, I’d call BS on that statement.





  • Whatever amount they are getting from the publishers to do that is going to be less than the amount the publishers expect to get from the students because of it (plus all the expenses of building and maintaining the web portal).

    The schools could just charge an avoiding corruption fee that is the same value as the kickback, tell the publishers to fuck off, and give the students a better experience that is also cheaper than the “recommended” one the publishers want to force them into to sell way overpriced books.



  • Or bath salts. And in reality, Hyrule is normal and peaceful. At least until Link, tripping balls, thinks 100 years have passed while he napped and the world has gone to hell.

    His quests to collect shit all over the world were given in hopes that he would come down by the time he returns, but Zelda gets some really good shit (she doesn’t have a hook up, she’s the ruler of Hyrule and has a fully staffed lab) and likes getting Link high on various substances, sending him out on “quests” then does meth and follows him around disguised as a ninja until she crashes.

    Then she usually needs him to deal with the head chemist, Al, who likes to invent even stronger shit and tries to take over the kingdom as his alter ego, Ganondorf (or sometimes just Ganon when he’s too fucked up to add the “dorf”) while Zelda’s out on her Shiek binge. The castle guards are too wasted to know what’s going on and prefer to patrol the garden (so they can just puke in the bushes when they need to).


  • It comes in two pieces, a bottom tray, and a grid that is hinged and has a handle. Then, to break the ice, you just torque the handle, which shifts the grid angle, forcing each cube to move and come free. Works best if you move the ice to a different container at this point but you don’t have to.

    If you do a search for “metal ice tray”, it should come up in the images (to avoid linking an amazon image).

    I like it better than the plastic trays for this. Both can be a pain in the ass but in different ways. Plastic trays can snap when you bend them (haven’t had one snap in half but I have had one snap some of the structural supports) and often the ice just settles back in its place after you loosen it and you need to “bounce” it a bit until the ice turns in the cavity so you can grab it. With the metal tray, it doesn’t just free the ice easily when you break it (though still easier than the bouncing game) and if you lift the grid part out, you’ll probably need to use a different container or just leave the grid off until you make new ice.
