This kind of offbeat FOSS social media stuff can’t replace the major social media monopolies anyways, it serves a different purpose. I think that if the lemmy.world people want to wall themselves off and take over their digital fiefdom it will make people take the artificial public opinion less seriously, the way most older lemmy users outgrew reddit. It seems like something they do to reassure themselves. Then again, this network & Mastodon etc are well-known to intelligence contractors.
