  • Essentially Bsky users finally discovered that their “safe space” social media site is in fact run by people that actually really don’t like them.

the meat and potatoes is their “ceo” mocked the user base when people called her out for banning people that spoke ill of Charlie Kirk while not banning the most blocked user on the site, Jessie Signal, a transphobic journalist.

She then “encouraged” users to not post as a form of protest. Also somehow Lowtax’s ex wife got involved. It’s weird a weird mess and it’s not a good look for either side. A. the bluesky userbase looks foolish for believing this social media site was different and a “safe space” when it wasn’t. and B. Bluesky themselves look foolish for mocking said user base.

  • I use Bitwardens self hosted option, VaultWarden, that I run in a docker. works fine. I use it with the bitwarden CLI since I’m using QuteBrowser on all my machines. I then run a weekly backup of my vaultwarden to an external ssd.

Beauty of it is that it will also work with Bitwardens extension on chrome or firefox. So if I’m on another machine and I need access to my PW’s I can just install the extension, add my self-hosted vaultwarden, then remove it when i’m done.

  • I run Akkoma, Navidrome, Searx, valutwarden, RomM, Forgejo, wireguard, RDP, and a few other things all via docker. Honestly I just keep everything in their own dir and just have Yazi on my server to make it easier to manage. I don’t auto update anything, it’s all manual updates.

I’m probably going to slap Watchtower in there to just make things easier. don’t really need to over think it in all honesty.

  • I have OVH for dedicated but I’ve also used their VPS and they’re great. They leave me alone, don’t hound me for anything, cheap prices, reliable as I’ve never had issues them. can’t complain. They’re Euro based but they have servers near me in Montreal so I use that which is great when I put my VPN on there cause now I get student discounts everywhere since my server is at McGill University.

  • yeah I ONLY just recently switched to fish after using zsh and oh my zsh for so long - pretty much since first starting linux cause I once saw someone using it on unixporn and I thought “that’s cool”

when I switched to NixOS zsh with all the plugins was a total slog. switched to fish and it just HAS everything that zsh/oh my zsh and the various plugins had but baked in.

so yeah in Fish it’s just starting to type something and hoping it’s still in the history.

  • they’ve already made their money, you’re fine. you don’t need to support them as they’ve already been paid. Most creators for films and tv shows have already been paid.

Music artists, indie game devs, etc support them instead. Most musicians aren’t getting million dollar contracts, hell most don’t even get a few grand contract and any album sales or whatever fractions of a penny they make from music streaming sites go to the record label anyways. But their merch, go to their concerts as that’s where artists make their money.
