I can give Ali a pass for niche things, but Temu is straight up junk. The problem is when these cheaper products permeate everything while being pushed as high end. Etsy is basically useless now because of this. Almost everything on there is an overpriced knockoff.

None of this is necessarily AliExpress’ or Temu’s fault though. It’s just what happens in a capitalist system.

Products as a whole are going to shit in terms of quality. It’s part of the enshittification that late capitalism drives.

And automatic litter boxes have always been trash. I’ve had 2 in my lifetime and they were both bad. Just scoop that thing and call it a day!

Even Amazon has gotten super sketch as of late. It’s hard to determine which products are good or not when the site is flooded with 500 duplicates from 500 clearly fake companies.

My advice is to buy nothing from AliExpress or Temu.

I think it’s just part of this “move fast” mentality. We’re at a point where we’re forced to move so quickly that things get thrown out the window just to meet a deadline.

Software teams solved this a fucking eternity ago through shared component and design libraries. Meanwhile, all of these FAANG companies are out here pushing surveillance tools that are all clearly built by siloed teams with zero collaboration.

This is a big reason I farmed hard in Elden Ring and have 356 hours. I spent a lot of that time leveling my health up so I can take more damage. Level 156 and my health bar is like half the width of my TV lmao.

Even allowing one country to compete and not another leads to a slippery slope. Like suddenly we’re letting one slide while the other can’t compete based on some arbitrary rules? Sounds like favoritism and/or pay-to-play. The US pulls so many strings, it makes sense why Israel gets a pass when they don’t deserve one. It’s all about US influence.

Any country with leadership that commits war crimes should not be allowed to compete. Israel, the US, China, doesn’t matter who. Also, any soldier working for a foreign army that is well known for committing atrocities should absolutely not be allowed to compete.

I get what the meme is saying, but IMO it’s not executed as clearly and well as it could’ve been.

There are so many cool apps where you can leverage the camera to assess things in the real world. My wife and I occasionally use the plant identifier app, and there are tons of apps for scanning objects in 3d. Trying to redirect some of that screen time to genuinely interesting and educational apps helps. Also, my wife and I have been playing Pokémon Go for years. It’s too hot right now, but it got us out walking consistently when it was cooler out.

My screen time is much reduced, but I still try to find other ways to use it that don’t involve social media. Social media is the common thread when it comes to unhealthy screen behaviors these days and shaking that FOMO can be a challenge. Part of that challenge for me involved setting up my own Lemmy instance. I spend time reading through interesting articles, looking at art, animals, weird facts, book recommendations, comics, etc. It’s much easier to disconnect from than social media can be.

+1 for this comment. I got Stremio setup yesterday based on your post and the recommended add-ons, and it was insanely simple. I was able to get it all setup on my Samsung TV in like ~15 minutes.
