It worked in the movie Young Einstein and I trust movies, not really I just wanted to make an amusing but related comment about a lesser well than known movie of my youth. Of course since it’s a comic seems semi relevant, it was a part of the movie trailer heh unless my memory is worse than I hope but I don’t want to delve there.

orbitz@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do some people hate drinking water?5·1 month agoI’ve lived where tap water tasted like shit, not quite literally but eveytime I went home I’d have to remember not to drink the tap water. Eventually that town got a better water treatment plant but I can sort of see it from that angle. We always had the big 4gallon jugs (again may not be correct but the bigger jugs that sit on top for a dispenser) for regular drinking water
Thankfully where I moved to (many many kms away) the tap water was awesome, don’t live there now but I still do tap water over filtered for the most part. Never seems that much worse so may as well.
Really the only reason you’d drink the other tap water was cause you’re hungover…also been there. Then you remember that there’s a water dispenser somewhere in that house cause no one drank the water from the tap in the town. Even the better water wasn’t great but still noticably improved.
Not sure how many people will get this, but way back when I have Eve online a go, I made either some containers or markers (guessing markers? Cause otherwise I’d have just took the cargo but can’t recall why I had two then), but they were called the bees knees and the cat’s pajamas. For some reason I always liked those terms for something good. I’m ‘only’ in my 40s so not quite from my time lol.

Can I still be charged with a hate crime? Or does one have to know first?4·2 months agoSometimes you may not have a choice with who fights you. I recall once in Calgary a few decided to try and fight our group and we just disengaged, but if they were adament about fighting there was little we could do. It was quite random and we’d were in our middle teens and don’t think we said anything first but it’s going back like 30 years so recollection is hazy. I think we were just walking around in the evening is all.
So people just are looking for a fight and maybe our disinterest curbed their desire but I have no doubt there are others who wouldn’t be curbed by that and just want to beat on people.
I do agree with the general sentiment but sometimes even if you do everything correctly the wrong outcome happens.
I do not, no proof. If there was a god such as in the Bible why give us reasoning abilities when they give no proof? And if so, then I put forward the idea that if there is such a god, they don’t care if we believe so why bother?. Not to go all gamer but like the Sims, they made us and took out the pool ladder and saw what happened.
If there is a god that has such powers and cares, well fuck them cause they ain’t helping us it seems. If they are well we’re too far off course for it to matter, this playthrough is spiraling and it doesn’t matter if we believe or not cause we may be circling the drain.
So seems easier not to believe because if you do it’s more depressing.
Hah I always confused the name with that one with the episode Disaster (had to look it up Picard and kids winning something), no wonder I rarely watched it. Cause I’m pretty sure they go up ladders in turbolifts in that one so just thought that was that episode. But I recall liking the backwards people starting fires. To be fair I don’t watch much TNG these days but still my favorite series by far (also haven’t watch a series since Enterprise so may need to catch up).
Is that the one they start a fire in the area they’re in and then get shown the replicator? If so that general one always stuck though been many years now, but don’t recall the laughing offhand. I’ll have to watch for Stewart laughing, I love those kinds of reactions.

I’ve had few complaints, occasionally there’s a video that won’t play but works in VLC but that’s pretty rare. Sometimes it doesn’t pick up new videos properly but that’s just expected for some file names.
orbitz@lemmy.cato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My kids don’t like to watch cartoons or movie explicitly made for kids. What are some good movies targeted toward adults that kids can watch?2·3 months agoHuh, I was only 11ish watching it, I think I thought the first one was scarier or had a darker tone, the pool scene was a bit scary for one, maybe it was the music? Also they seemed much more menacing in 1 but it could have been due to the slapstick comedy it was sandwiched with in part 2 that made it feel less frightening.
All that said, I ended up watching Nightmare on Elm Street too young so that may have skewed my interpretation of scary. Yes younger than Gremlins 2, but I also quite enjoyed Nightmare on Elm Street and watched them all (well not 2 as much), so maybe just my experience.
If you’re a Star Trek fan the Voyager doctor is there for some comedy, if you’re a Smallville fan Lyonel Luthor is there…has a decent cast for the movie it is. Oh and forgot Christopher Lee too heh.
Haven’t watched it in years still.
orbitz@lemmy.cato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What video game phrases should not be used out of context ?8·5 months agoHey now, those clothes were made out of multiple people’s skins, not just the person they ate. … Just Rimworld things.
Hope there’s a sea minus minus somewhere for whomever that was.
The speeder scenes rocked, the few times I got to play the game on that in an arcade it was definitely closer to actually riding at death defying speeds in a semi open forest area, and it wasn’t a quarter game either if I recall.
The score with the final lightsaber scene makes it great as well though in my books. Without the same music it wouldn’t have worked nearly as well…though that’s probably the same for a lot of the scenes. As great as the movie is I can still just listen to the music on its own, used to even on vinyl back in the day, Dad’s soundtrack and my fisher price record player lol.

Not who you asked but I hook up mine to a PC meant for streaming, there’s no need for it to be smart with either browser or applications that stream the content. Unless I’m missing something.
It’s not a need as much as a preference to not want every device need a connection if you have other means to handle the tasks. Also less bandwidth used since they don’t send back random data to headquarters, not that I imagine it’s a lot.
orbitz@lemmy.cato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If there was a 90s retro aesthetic similar to the current 80s neon and synthwave like the 80s never were - what would it be like?8·9 months agoNot saying wrong but that movie came out in '99, so I think a retro of the 90s would be closer to mid to early 90s since there’s that bleed over to the early '00 decade. Of course I’m older so maybe that part would be included, just more considered it 00s era.
Since I didn’t comment otherwise I’ll mention Xtreme sports, frosted hair colours, and some neon bleed over (though not cyberpunk levels) from the 80s for a 90s retro.
I started that like 10 years ago, unfortunately I have a funky shaped head so it doesn’t look as good as it may on others but I do enjoy the maintenance on it. I can definitely tell these days it won’t grow back like it used to (much thinner on the top, edging back on the top sides). However being able to use a hair trimmer once a week myself is cheap, and less things to do while getting ready in the morning.
I can understand since society seems to put value on hair but not worrying about it (some confidence) goes a long way. I barely think about it nowadays.
How do you find which one you want with 150 open? Genuinely curious is all, I’m old and mostly use PC and can type quick enough to find what I want if I know which site (wikis for games and such). If I had to scroll through 150 tabs I’d spend half the time looking through a list so wonder how it helps to have that many open. Or maybe I just don’t read fast enough to scroll well.
Not if the place doesn’t do daylight savings time, and not all places in a timezone will do that (least in North America) so you need extra code if they do or do not. It becomes a pain after awhile when you do it in multiple projects. Technically one extra setting but it’s still a pain to make sure it’s handle properly in all cases, especially when the previous programmer decided to handle it for each case individually, but that’s a different issue.
Also when you deal with the times, say in .Net you gotta make sure it’s the proper kind of date otherwise it decides it’s a local system date and will change it to system local when run. Sure it’s all handled but there are many easy mistakes to make when working with time.
I probably didn’t even get to the real reason, I sort of picked this up on my own.
orbitz@lemmy.cato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you routinely fall asleep listening to as a kid and what does it for you now?2·1 year agoAs a kid I rarely listened to anything, these days I put on Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio show, just go bacl to the start I’ve heard up to the third phase often but not the further ones as much. In the more recent past it may have been a Harry Potter (UK) book or again Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy voiced by Stephen Fry. Guess that’s a lot of UK stuff considering I’m Canadian, but Fry has such a nice voice to drift off to.
Never looked into the half life but first time it took like 6-7 hours to see the ceiling swirl nicely. I wouldn’t assume many days lasting though. The wired framed mech I wanted to see out my 3rd story window at like 4am was beat though, especially when I made it walk back and forth.
But after many times, including after seeing the Teletubbies sun face randomly (actually not even the most awesome hallucination that trip), after 12 hours I was mostly sober.
Other time I recall was about 10 hours after first dropping went to a rave and got home,I saw some fun colours in the shower water, into infinity between the tiles, then yelled a Madeline cartoon cause they left their luggage 3 scenes before they checked in and had it next to them again…then went to bed and was all tired later cause my sleeping schedule was mixed up.
I wouldn’t think it last longer than say 12 hours unless other factors are in play.
Edit forgot to say, most of my acid trips I saw no more than stucco ceiling swirling for a hallucination. So don’t take these experiences as standard…well maybe the watching that Madeline episode that was stupid continuity but expected for a tv show made for kids.
