I mean, outside the healthcare/food aspect, that’s a college level course in chemistry. Basically, “saturated” fats are long carbon chains with those carbon atoms filled with hydrogen so there are only single bonds in the chain. “Unsaturated” are those same carbon chains but with at least two carbon atoms (adjacent to each other) not filled. Rather than those carbon atoms having one more hydrogen each, they just add a bond between them forming a double bond. This double bond is an easy point your digestive system uses to break down the fat. For unsaturated there are some different groupings. Those are mono or poly unsaturated and trans or cis. The difference between mono and poly is the number of double bonds. Mono, there is only a single double bond. Poly there are 2 or more. Cis or trans indicate where the chain continues after the double bond. Cis, it continues on the same side making it difficult for molecules to settle in a nice organized fashion. Imagine trying to stack some sticks that all have a 90 degree bend in them. Trans fats continue the chain on the opposite side. This results in a straighter more easily organized chain. Now your bundle of sticks are all straight. Much easier to stack. This stacking makes it much more difficult to break apart those chains when they are straight.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why doesn't the NHL include playoffs from lifetime stats for players?
1·3 days agoPretty sure all pro sports do this.
Trans is actually always unsaturated. It’s also much worse than saturated. That’s why you have to be careful just looking for unsaturated fats.
also healthier fats which is basically unsaturated
But not trans-fats.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do I tell my (republican) parents when they constantly bring up expensive gas prices and put the burden on California because of gas taxes and "stupid" regulatory fees?
751·7 days agoDid they bitch about gas prices under biden and solely blame him? If so, ask what’s different now. See if they can point to state level changes that affected gas prices.
This is assuming they would at least attempt a good faith argument. If not, I’d just laugh and imply they have the mentality of a child thinking they figured out the world and are dead wrong. Like listen to their inane rants and just kinda chuckle as if it’s impressive they built such a convoluted plot in their head.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How would the world of World War Z (the book not the movie) handle a zombie Apoc versus our world
3·10 days agoThis. And though the book didn’t get into it, the tank might be able to move but it could be completely surrounded. Zeke would swarm like slow ants on a carcass. What does the tank do when there are a hundred of them clinging and climbing on the tank? The Battle of Hope lasted almost a full day. That was a planned and coordinated fight that had tens of thousands of zombies. How long could a swarmed tank last with no visibility due to carrying a swarm? How close is support when that many zombies are around? You can’t just go shooting them off or you might hurt the tank.

111·10 days agoI just don’t see how walkers would be a threat in the real world,
Numbers. Couple that with the conspiracy theory nuts that would deny they exist and actively assist the spread. Battle of Yonkers was a pretty good example of how a military response could fail. Most people have no concept of how difficult a head shot is nor the energy required and also difficulty in melee attacking a human head.
