I am definitely seeing microblogs from non kbin.earth users on my account, and if you view the global microblog page not logged-in, you can also see it as well. I don’t believe there is a setting that would prevent seeing microblog’s from federated users (apart from the all/local feed option, which you already said was on all).

Mastodon (and related platforms) do not have a concept of magazines (communities), but Mbin requires that all posts should be categorized into a magazine, thus, most Mastodon posts you will find within the
randommagazine. They are still going to include external servers, which you can verify by checking the author of the post and seeing which server they are from.
