social media without the censorship

my cats do this; they know to sit in the chair i use every morning after making coffee because they know that i have to pick them up and set them on my lap and pet them while i start my work.

i don’t mind it. lol

it changes at least once per year and i used to do it with code versioning; but now i’ve just learned how to be happy with the basic settings that are common on most distros. i’ve used Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat & Oracle professionally and Fedora & Ubuntu personally.

i asked you this because the other time i asked this on lemmy it i learned something new about how it can be done and i’m hoping to strike gold twice.

it makes me wish that someone with 3d printers would offer to print things out for other people small fee.

i’ve got lots of broken plastic things that i glued/duck-taped/melted together because they were integral to how something (most appliances) function and i would pay someone to copy and print out a replica of it so that i can replace it.

how are you managing the dot files?

it’s worse than that; people who’ve never done it are empowered to make decisions on it.

i’m convinced that this is why lemm.ee grew so quickly; most of the apps defaulted to it.

and then they’ll go to another billionaire oligarch funded no-kings march to “protest” it.

the redditors dominated all of lemmy’s popular communities (especially asklemmy) and i recommended a different instance so you can see the unpopular communities that don’t include their toxicity.

if you’re more toxic then them, then you might want to stay where you are.

as a non-american you can be forgiven for not knowing that democrats have been doing this for the last half century.

there are technically several parties, but effectively only 2; republicans (like trump) and democrats. every time that there has been a political impass between the two parties for the last 50 years, the democrats have ignored their voters like this and sided with the republicans.

so you have to wrap everything in a try/catch?

on my first day of living in new york; i was carrying my worldly possessions in a trio of jumbo suitcases and i was having difficulty carrying them up the subway stairs to the street and blocking the path for everyone else. two people – wordlessly and zero eye contact – each took a suitcase out of my hand and carried it up to the top of the stairs, dropped them off where i can resume rolling them and walked away.

not a single “let me help you” or “do you need some help?”; they saw the situation and decided that helping me would help everyone else and simply did it.

this was before smartphones became a thing so i doubt that this could still happen because people’s faces are too buried in screens to notice others anymore.

you’re on one of the instances that took in the most fleeing redditors and they brought their petty & hateful toxicity with them; i strongly recommend changing instances if you want to get away from most of it.

there are so many on this subject and i imagine that the climate collapse that the western world is racing towards is going to cause another collapse like it.

the number of downvotes should give you your answer; it’s propaganda coupled with natural human misery that makes trying to help others such a difficult (and sometimes self defeating) task.

i pursue the activities with the highest dopamine reward built in on a regular basis.

it turns out that it also accdentally forces me to check out of all media for the entire weekend and i’m okay with that.
