Our world in a nutshell.
I run my Jellyfin on a Synology NAS and it connects to Tailscale on boot. (Doesn’t require any of their cloud stuff to be active, either). Maybe a cheap/used NAS is your answer?
K&T Host does Lemmy and it works great. Their support is stellar.
I got a Dawarich instance running yesterday, so far it is pretty good. Getting it running over SSL was an absolute nightmare but now that it’s working the tracking is pretty powerful.
Brilliant, love these options. I think Dawarich looks fun, and really powerful data gathering that is mapped to places and summarized, which is very cool
So many good options! Ya’ll are the best
Not liquid enough.
What calendar system do you use to manage your appointments?
Baller.
I use Feedly, it has a nice iOS client too. It has some nice integrations for saving articles for later reading
Learn to throw your voice until you can “pspsps” from down the hall.
That’s entirely up to us!
I’m thinking about this also. I felt the same about WF. I don’t want to invest energy in medium or another commercial enterprise that will just wipe my content someday.
I’m starting to think the answer is to throw away the idea of a blog as its own entity. Post your content in the appropriate community in the fediverse, and self host communities you can’t find or trust. Decentralize your blog content as much as possible.
Thanks! It’s a real thing I started IRL in the before-times, in the spirit of 18th century thinkers. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Society_of_Birmingham ) It’s the ideal I have for Lemmy so it made sense to run my instance using that name.
Agreed. Reddit is dead to me. This community is the primary.
It’s so hard to let them go but loving someone means letting them leave you their way, in their time, even if it hurts you. And every good day you had together is yours to cherish forever ❤️
Both take up too much space on the desk
My family has had some of the best cats this way. My mom would always go to the shelter and adopt the oldest one they had and we had so many truly wonderful sweet cats over the years.
I would love to see a return to curated link collections. Each person’s hobbies and expertise represented in links to the places they contribute, the repositories they are part of, the resources they depend on, and the information sources they consider reliable.
If you added some very basic support for verifying and following links that change, and something to prevent unauthorized AI bot scraping, and shipped it in a docker container that would run on small hardware like this, maybe an alternative grassroots internet could re-emerge.
