In this language you would account for this behavior so all comparisons and lookups would be designed to be valid for the increased range. To do this you’d have to record integers in increments of 10, so there would be no (or very few) off-by-40-to-50 errors, or off-by-1 errors, but there would be off-by-10 errors.

Despite the end result being the death of everything within a single lifespan and the eventual destruction of the entire Earth in the new term future, I was surprised it would not be more immediately destructive. 1 cm/s sure sounded like a pretty fast expansion.

Modders will still be going through an intermediate library like Forge or Fabric, but it will make the development and upkeep of those libraries much easier. And might be a huge boon in bug finding in the base code.
There’s no catch I can see. It’s probably just recognition that Minecraft’s extensive modding scene is financially good for it and there’s no real point in trying to make free promotional work by fans harder.
