It may have changed now but when I was in the Navy in the late 80s we just tossed all our trash into the ocean twice a day. Everything: paint cans, medical waste, regular trash. It was disgusting

Very location locked, but all Smithsonian museums in DC are free. Even special exhibits that require timed ticketing.

Every couple of years I do a big purge of things I have not used or worn. First to goodwill then to the dump, it is very cathartic.
