Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's an example of something that usually goes unnoticed when done well but very noticeable when done poorly or not done at all?
7·23 days agoUnfortunately my city has shit waste management so the trash has been piling up for some days now…

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Aight. Let's be honest. How many of you dress for yourselves, and how many dress for others?
1·25 days agoMundane things like helping someone carry their groceries from one vehicle to another when we’re going down on the same stop. When we’re boarded in the same vehicle they enthusiastically pay for my fare.
I tend to experience it more when I’m wearing business casual.

4·26 days agoI got tangible perks for wearing certain clothes and helping people in them. It seems like when you dress a bit more formally, people are more likely to think you’re going out of your way to help them, and you’re more likely to get compensated. That mentality kinda sucks because if you squint a bit, there’s a social class bias in play. And I remember a little factoid where someone found out you get scammed less at the dentist if you wear a suit vs if you wear something like a hoodie.

2·26 days agoBoth, but it’s less about looking good or acceptable to others, it’s more about displaying a specific image really.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Realistically, how feasible is it to 100% boycott a massive corporation (such as Amazon) for an extended period of time?
2·8 months ago“The most important impact you can have as a consumer is not that the lack of your personal revenue is going to keep the likes of Jeff Bezos up at night. It’s that you’re providing revenue and a user base to alternative businesses that are struggling to exist in a world where most people just use Amazon.”
I agree! I think we should frame boycotts this way, I can’t stand companies abusing their chokehold on the market. It’s also a more feasible and tangible goal.
I can still use Stealth for Reddit

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does it seem like many Americans have an arrogant personality trait?
5·8 months agoYeah, my mom and I (in the Philippines) saw an American talk about having lots of money quite loudly in a shopping mall. We were put off.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has America Reached Its Tipping Point with Ignorance?
5·9 months agoSomething similar happened to us in the Philippines. There was a huge propaganda and disinformation campaign on Facebook by the Marcos family (rumored to have partnered with Cambridge Analytica). Which led to people falsely thinking that Marcos I’s regime was a golden age, and now we have his son as president.

3·9 months agoI can relate as someone who realized they’re actually more interested in the Humanities after choosing a STEM preparatory course. Then I remembered that the reason why I chose STEM is because my country doesn’t give a shit about professions other than being a lawyer, doctor, or engineer.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you feel like you've reached the end of what the world has to offer?
3·9 months agoOr you can read world history that isn’t just Eurocentric stuff. Hell, I bet most people don’t know European History in depth. You can even get into scholarly theology, from Christianity to Hinduism (which btw, is more of an umbrella term as it is composed of multiple religions). Read philosophies like Confucianism, which will help you understand a bit of Chinese culture.

1·9 months agoGet into folkloristics, it’s pretty fun. You can get into all the Slenderman stuff because it’s literally untapped mystery you can’t just rely on secondhand sources, all the research is centered on one controversy that somehow killed his popularity but not every other religion. My “job” (it’s a hobby) is basically having to read the hundreds of all the Slenderman blog ARGs ranging from 2009 to the present day, as well as all the freaking Slenderman and Creepypasta comics. It’s just interesting how religious patterns emerge out of something spontaneously created on the internet, like Zalgo vs Slenderman having parallels with every other religion with “divine rivalry”. Interesting anthropological subject.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has Google’s search results drastically declined for anyone else?
2·2 years agoThere is another comment that said their default settings still let an ad slip in. Same thing happened to me before enabling Dynamic Filtering, then found out some trackers and ad servers are persistent. Plus, hard mode allows you to block trackers more.

Thank you!
