Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[US] What happens when the government shuts down, and if it stays down, what do we do?
3·28 days agoYou already had it. They pretended to have an election and then they slowly dismantle the remains of a pretend democracy while the dictatorship/oligarchy continues. You don’t wave banners or do any big loud moves and there’s minimum resistance. Hell, you can even have a little concentration camps and death squads as a treat.
Just like there’s been WWIII going on in Europe for years now with minimal resistance outside the immediate warzones.
And there’s been several country wide invasions in recent decades. A bit of news for a while, but as long as you don’t put up new flags, they’re forgotten about after a few years as businesses get going again.
I was always a burrower when a bit of extra wall on top. Kind of dreamed of being more mason.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a video game that you just don't get the hype about?
3·28 days agoMe too. It’s beautiful. It’s amazingly beautiful and interesting and kind of simple. But I hate twitchy platforming and being thrown back a long way because of a tiny mistake or ten every time.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do air purifiers really reduce dust much?
2·28 days agoYes, for some values of dumb. New ones? I don’t know. But many older ones have no connectivity at least.
https://librervac.org/Supported_Devices might be a good start (and maybe even end).
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
As an engineer, no we don’t have to and usually don’t (get to) say that.

Wholesome@reddthat.com•Feelgood Friday... what's something you're looking forward to this weekend?
1·1 month agoSome quality time together.
Yes, that is objectively a lot of free space.
Of course there are some uses where it won’t last long but they’re very exceptional as filesystems go.
A big part of the increasing workload to play ratio in elementary school is for learning to do some hard work. If you coast and/or give up easily, there will be a tall wall waiting for you at university level if not earlier. It won’t be hard to scale if you’ve learned to put in the effort, but it will be too late to start practicing that then.
Same goes for figuring out how to make your brain retain information (association building). At some point rote memorization isn’t going to cut it anymore.
These things need to be built up along with the basic knowledge. And yes, schools and teachers all around the world are often failing the students in that. There’s no simple blame or simple cure. Education is a huge task.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you were in a room with your own pet and 99 identical pets, how would you pick out your pet (aside from calling their name)?
3·4 months agoThis is probably worth starting with even when you already know which one is yours.
Always cut the cards and smile when you lose.

Maybe he already has one cool nerd and is looking for a few more.
I have bought a few otherwise hard to find books on Amazon. Actual paper books. At least used to be possible.
