Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your overall opinion on generative AI?English
2·1 day agoIt has its uses. It’s just ruined by the bad apples of people who’ve long have had malicious intent where if you put anything that was intended for a good purpose in front of them, they’d ruin that for everyone.
For example, when there are things I do not know about like objects, I can take a picture of it, direct and show ChatGPT by asking what it is and it’ll tell me. It’s convenient to talk to an LLM to understand phrases, slang, slurs and their history about them in real time. I also have enjoyed using it to fix and enhance images that my phone’s piss-poor autofocus fucks up on with some images.
I think what really ruins AI is that, select people and companies are way too heavily reliant. It is not a solve-everything tool. It is not something you go to about everything, like mental therapy. It is not something you should be using to cheat on homework, to have it help you with getting by in colleges and school that rely on your own problem solving skills to navigate.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy?English
341·2 days agoI felt that they were the most definitive Batman movies we’ll get for a while. I don’t think it was fair for people to uphold Dark Knight Rises against the Dark Knight, because the bar was already set high. It was all a nice breath of fresh air to have a series of movies that didn’t play up to a lot of fan service like the MCU did.
To this day though, I really don’t like how growling Batman got when he spoke. What was up with that? Give him a freaking cough drop.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you consider as "unworthy moments" in your life?English
2·2 days agoShitty apps on your car’s dashboard taking forever to load, like Android Auto. Google Maps too. God forbid I wanted to try learning a new route and see where it went to get to a destination, they both took so long and I didn’t want an accident that I caved going the familiar routes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else find 'pseudoanimation' annoying?English
11·3 days agoI don’t. When they’re used to progress articulation of what they’re talking about, it’s a need.
What would you prefer? Minutes and minutes of text? Did you expect full fledged movies?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever spent Christmas alone? Why and how was it?English
1·4 days agoIt depresses me that decorating isn’t the same when there isn’t anybody to enjoy it with. Like why bother? The stuff is temporary, most of it will be donated or thrown away.
I think this year I’ll take an entire week off from work and just enjoy the nurture of eggnog while doing what I want.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you staunch in your convictions? If so, do you wish you weren't?English
2·4 days agoI’m pretty flexible with a lot of my perspectives in views, because it helps me see a lot of angles. The problem starts is when someone wants to ruin that fun by trying to convert me into their way of thinking.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does watching or partaking in mainstream media make me uncomfortable?English
7·9 days agoI’m going to have to answer this based on my personal experience and I’d know because your detailing is very similar.
Mainstream content reinforces the idea that the world and society all but feel manufactured. They’re the things that got chosen to be popular, they’re what is going to be market, they’re what is going to be talked about and so on and so forth. Sometimes it is chosen but other times, there’s definitely a formula in the works that just gravitates people instantly.
That’s all fine and well. But if you’re an individual who’ve developed their own tastes and you’re not getting in any engagement with anyone about those tastes, you’re going to get lost in the fold very quickly because you’re not part of what everyone considers the ‘in’ thing.
Your last bit tells me that it’s a you-thing. You dropped everything that you liked, because why? Because you saw merchandise being made in a store? But it’s like, did anyone force what you enjoyed down your throat? You’re waiting for the hype to die down? I don’t get that, because all that you’re doing, is limiting your personal enjoyment and your personal moderation about how much you enjoy something.
You don’t have to go out, buy the merchandise, buy anything that so much has your favorite thing on it. You don’t have to engage with the mass volume of the community that gets noisy to engage. You’ve sucked out whatever interest that was left over things that are optional. It’s one thing if a series changes because of fan demand, that I can understand and it has happened to people’s favorite series.
But if a series is still going for what it is, unaltered and naturally enjoyed but still popular but you want to sit it out anyways? That’s kindof on you.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What does Lemmy have that Reddit wishes it could have?English
36·10 days agoKids and Teens online is such a wormy issue. They’ll be everywhere, lying about their ages, lying about who they really are .etc They’re just problematic little liars at every turn, fucking things up for the rest of us, because their parents are stupid and garbage at handling them.
We wouldn’t have an issue with social media, with IDs, with chat room or even Discord servers if it weren’t for them. Fuck them, they don’t belong online. The internet should be for 18+ users. It’s clearly evident that teenagers and children in general, cannot handle anything online. And the only reason they sortof can now, is because of the lengths the laws and egregious moderation that consists of the sanitization of online content have gone to ‘protect’ them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something in your life that you got through that you didn't think you'd get through?English
3·11 days agoMy high school. I just didn’t think I’d come out with a diploma and that my entire school ‘career’ had been nothing filled but setbacks and directionless days. Yet I somehow came through.
I didn’t think I’d make it past my 20s, because at the time, I was a very overweight teen that carried it over into their 20s. I’ve heard stories of people who’ve been overweight that’d never see lengthy lives because the burden of weight would be too much.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unforgivable sin done in media that you're still bitter about?English
4·11 days agoI actually maybe wouldn’t have minded two movies. Then again, I say it should’ve been one 3-hour long film and given the extended treatment the LOTR films got. It’d be one long, but eventful movie.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unforgivable sin done in media that you're still bitter about?English
4·11 days agoThe question was meant to be broad.
It’s yet another subjective thing because it varies from person to person. Basic Knowledge from Person 1 will say “common sense, simple math” and Person 2 will say “manners and developing respect”. I mean, it’s everywhere.
