2·23 days agoI think Irish Stew is safe. No one’s touching that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you stupidly believe as a child?
2·28 days agoIts upside down you know. The rocket engine fires upwards and what you see is after it pushes back, Newton’s First Law and all that (equal and opposite reaction).
If it pushed down, it wouldn’t work in space cos there’s nothing for it to push against.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How does Chuck Schumer still have a job?
1·1 month agoBiden increased sanctions on Venezuela.
During the Venezuelan election, when the US-backed opposition leader said that he wouldn’t give the oilfields back to the US, Biden had their financial support cut off and arrested opposition members living in the US.
The Venezuelan policy is bipartisan.

2·1 month agoPrior to LED torches, the flashlights on films were turned off, and the light was painted in later, as the beam wouldn’t show up on film anyway. This is doubly true in that night scenes were filmed during the day and they just filmed through a grey filter.
I suspect the stuff they sell in restaurants isn’t what mothers in Mexico cook at home.
I just want to rant about Texan chilli - no beans ? So, it’s mince in fact ?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unpopular UI opinion you have?
1·1 month agoSidebars are awesome when you are using the trackpad.
I also like when you have to click on the page to scroll down but virtually the whole page clicks through to somewhere else. Nice.
I’m being sarcastic btw

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So apparently full stops in texts are 'passive agressive' now. What other unwritten rules for texting have changed over the last couple of decades?
1·2 months agoYou know they’re exactly the same thing right ? Only north americans use the term “period”.
Old English used stops liberally, they were used in place of commas and semi-colons as well, it was called a full stop at the end of the sentence.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does Lemmy have more freedom of speech than Reddit?
2·2 months agoFreedom of speech. Yeah, sorta.
Freedom from consequences of your speech. Nope.
They are exactly the same thing.
They use behavioral psychology, a system of rewards, i’s not violent.
