I’m not sure that’s really the opposite side, in reality.

This is from 1969:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the original joke goes back to the silent movie era.
Understood; just wanted to add on.
My point is more or less that this doesn’t have to be a closed-book situation about fish oil. Maybe it can help in some other way, and/or maybe it really can work as ‘advertised’ in conjunction with other substances. Certainly wouldn’t be the first time, if so.
Best webcomic I’ve read in a while. The intrinsic hilarity of the situation was ridiculously refreshing compared to the usual ‘straining to come up with something funny / clever.’
Most fish oil is completely ineffective:
I’ve personally noticed some powerful effects from fish oil: 1) it can act as a neotropic booster, particularly in conjunction with SRI’s and similar meds / substances, 2) it can cause me significant insomnia (no arrhythmia) if I take ~6-8 capsules.
Is that germane to this thread? Probably not, but something seems to be going on. Maybe fish oil has been studied so far on too limited a basis.
crowbarred in
I think when they said that, the implication was that there was no need for such. I.e. it interrupted the flow of the story and didn’t add anything useful, other than perhaps pandering to a certain crowd.
Love you @[email protected], but I spazzed out recently after a full year of pressing too hard for a ‘post per day,’ and I feel like I dishonored everyone here when I melted down recently. (I’m super-embarrassed)
So I appreciate the mention, but regardless of how I embarrassed the community, I can’t aim for one scholarly post per day, anymore. I just can’t. Sorry about that, matey.
Now I do plan to keep on posting as the mood seeks me, but I just CAN’T keep the community popular like this, all on my own. Even just a little bit of help would go far.
Ugh, sorry for all the bitching and moaning. :S
A couple of the big comics communities also churn out a good chunk of content every day… if you like comics. “ArtPorn” and “SuperbOwl” also come to mind. I recommend you keep searching @[email protected], because you may find some great content sources that you weren’t previously thinking about.
(late reply alert!)
Late reply, but in English media articles, it’s still fairly common for me to see references to what people said on Reddit. AFAIK there are also still entertainment sites (“Caveman Circus” being one) that still regularly harvest expert or semi-expert takes found on Reddit in order to construct ‘best of’ articles.
Though-- perhaps that activity is down somewhat, as you suggest.
Unfortunately for us fans, it looks like Callery Kearns may have retired. Maybe you know something more?
The only influence German has now is the odd loanword, like Weltschmerz and Schadenfreude.
Hahahahaha! XD
Good luck, bro. (you’re gonna NEED it)
These are really well done for the most part. Very light-hearted, but rather devious: (Just for Laughs Gags)

I’d be interested in learning, because German is the biggest contributor to modern English along with French. Of course the split happened long, long ago, but still…
It would have to be a couple years though, after I (knock on wood) am done getting to about B2/C1 on French.
Good points. I remember that one can buy powdered tomato and a whole bunch of other useful powdered items on Amazon, etc. One can also buy that certain seasoning that makes movie-theatre popcorn taste so good.
chicken powder separately
Unfortunately, the ones around here aren’t all that great. Going by a ramen packet right now, it looks like this “Maruchan” version probably has more spices and dehydrated veggies than the straight chicken powder. Also, methinks the OXO cubes would be pretty hard to sprinkle over popcorn(!)
That said, there’s all kinds of great popcorn toppings (store bought and homemade), so I don’t suspect it’s a big problem.
No no…we had it fixed for centuries
I really don’t understand you there.
No, in fact the very founding of the USA was arguably done primarily so that the ruling class could disregard the respectful boundaries that the English imposed to avoid strife with Native Americans and other colonial powers, which incidentally tended to curb our exploiting the land willy-nilly as we’ve shamelessly done since. It also locked out women and slave voters, preserving a classist system.
Since then there’s been various periods of little / negligible useful social policies, as well as periods in which the ultra-wealthy and common capitalists were UNCHECKED in their ability to thoroughly exploit people and form monopolies, etc etc. Seriously, if the Roosevelts hadn’t come along, those things might have progressed scarily unchecked.
So, no-- I certainly don’t see evidence that our form of democracy was ‘fixed for centuries.’ No, the fact is it’s been a shaky, wild, perilous ride from the day one.
…the 1964 presidential campaign, as that’s the markings of the first ever attack ad.
Maybe in terms of TV, but TV is just a natural extension of media, and media in the States has been used since… at least the early 1800’s? to completely slag-off or outright attack enemy candidates. Indeed, it’s been a perfect blood-bath of disinformation at times, which doesn’t even address all the nasty, vile tricks used to disenfranchise, or outright turn away undesirable voters at the polls. Which yes-- includes outright violence against undesirable voters across centuries in the States.
So, yeah… that all happened.
Altho I DO agree with you that somewhere between 50-70yrs back, the USA has been outright under attack by right-wingers, paving the way for fascism. Basically attacking most of the progress made under FDR and even Republican presidents like Ike.
if it’s once a year. If we did it every night…
Around here (MidWest city), fireworks go off every night for a month before, and then a month after the fourth. And I don’t mean a small amount, either. More like some version of the Vietnam War. It’s nuts.
Basically, most of summer is devoted to fireworks play, with the fourth being a deluxe version of the “fun.”
I think I’ll refrain from posting a pic here, but mom had a ‘plant-bent’ that she followed up on by eventually becoming a certified ‘master gardener’ via series of courses.
In parallel with that, over the course of many years, mom took the little suburban backyard we had and transformed it in to… holy Willy Wonkas… a sort of ‘lush paradise,’ and with each square foot or so, it consisted of generally non-native, fascinating species. I.e., plants with interesting herbal qualities, incredible flowers, or whatnot.
Earlier, we’d rescued two stray cats, and it was really fun seeing them go back outside and frolic in mom’s garden. Hahaha, it was like an amusement park to them, one in which they became undeniably blissful and non-argumentative. (see, they didn’t like each too much, despite being sister littermates)
I sort of accidentally discovered that when dining at the local cantina.
The restaurant did something neat in serving an appetizer of guacamole on top of pico de gallo. For whatever reason I decided to dump the whole thing in to the bowl of spicy, chicken-black bean soup I was having. The contrast in flavors, and cooked vs fresh, spicy vs cool was an instant game changer. Indeed, I never looked back from there.
Oh, hay-all yes!
Whoa man… it seems like this hilarious comic *might just* be starting back up after a bloody five-yr hiatus working on their video game. To wit:
