  • It is still in early access and optimising the game is their current goal according to the road map, though as the whole concept of the game is about simulating every NPC properly at all times it’s always going to be really heavy game to run.
And you are right about accessibility making resource hungry games more common - they allow indies to make projects and use concepts that would have been scrapped as technically non-viable by a publisher before. Shadows of Doubt started development back in 2015, which would have meant reducing the scope of the game until it ran on a PS4. Being indie, they could just do whatever instead, and now it’s going to be enough if they can make it run acceptably on a PS5.

  • If the NSFW limit was put on “image of a woman wearing shorts and sports bra”, would you run to shut down the break room TV when they showed such obscene NSFW things like the Olympic games with their skimpy track and field and beach volleyball outfits? All of those communities would obviously need to be marked NSFW on Lemmy too.

And while NSFW indeed does come from the words “Not safe for work”, it isn’t “blur everything that wouldn’t be appropriate for my coworkers or boss to see me browse during work time”.
Getting caught watching episodes of My Little Pony would be pretty inappropriate and embarrassing during working hours as well.

  • Sure. But the IPv6 implementation is a bit like if we went “you know the y2038 problem of 32 bit numbers, and how goin under 1970 is sometimes hard? Lets solve it by making it start from the big bang and store time as a 256 bit integer so we don’t run out until year 3.1 x 10^69”.

IPv6 is big enough for 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 unique addresses. Are we expecting to create an universe consuming army of exponentially replicating paper clip converting robots that each need an IPv6 address or something?

  • Or the Seat Mii Electric, it’s even slightly more bare bones than the Citigo-e. Basically the VW group decided that instead of one car with three trim levels, they spread them under three different badges.
Though the dashboard is basically identical in each one (even the e-up) and what’s missing are parking sensors, cruise control, steering wheel buttons and stuff like that, so all of them fit the “not a smartphone on wheels” requirement.

And the only cat I’ve known “not to like” belly rubs absolutely loves them, but he will also try to claw and bite the shit out of your hand while you do, which is why you use an oven mitt while giving them.
Like, he will literally try to bring you that oven mitt and roll over for you in anticipation.

Or maybe he just likes murder.

  • Discord is great for providing a community chatroom for both voice and text. It started, and still is, as the combination of IRC and Teamspeak/Ventrilo, now just with more bloat and memes. That people are trying to use the “IRCTeamspeak” as the entire information platform for their open source project is just mental, as it puts everything hidden behind a login requirement, unindexable and unsearchable on any search engine in an ever-changing stream of unrelated discussion.

Stick your bug reports and issues in a Github/Gitlab etc tracker, your information into a Wiki, and set up a forum. The discord can exist alongside these, but it cannot properly replace any of them.
