So what do mothers do in the US? Do they take leave, unpaid; do they get fired or leave their jobs; do they get a nanny/childcare and show up for work after giving birth like it was just a cold? (Or maybe some are just stay at home moms)

Hm, playing devil’s advocate, I think it is because the minus has not been defined as a string operation (e.g. it could pop the last char), so it defaults to the mathematical operation and converts both inputs into ints.
The first is assumed to be a concat because one of the parcels is a string…
It’s just doing a lot of stuff for you that it shouldn’t be in first place 🤭
I just look at things like aesthetic plastic surgery and wonder if people used to feel inferior about themselves for things that they could not change (makeup and clothes was easy, so yeah, that has always existed…). Because today you need to keep improving yourself…because you can.
