India appears to be a country that contains multitudes and is hard to pin down. It has a problematically large contingent that is deeply islamaphobic. The country suffers from low regulation and prejudice as well as a shitty right wing president. But much of it is beautiful with rich culture. The prominent religions are pretty benign when compared to american christianity as far as I can tell

The soviets spent their entire existence trying to make all countries interested in socialism fall under their thumb. And the USA consequently spent a lot of time trying to make those socialist countries fail. Nothing happened in a vacuum

Well, it makes sense how that has happened. The revolution in Russia had many groups working together to kill the Tsar. Once he’s dead, the most militant and authoritarian is going to have the easiest time saying “I’m in charge, no objections right?”

Regardless of your perception of socialist countries so far, socialism is a newer system than capitalism. And if you look around, capitalism is not working out too well and has to be bailed out on a regular basis by socialist policies

From my experience, Mastodon is limited by interaction being more limited. On Twitter, I used to have the luxury of not needing to always know who I wanted to interact with. I could follow 30 celebrities I was interested in, go to their posts and find a plethora of people to interact with about something I cared about. That got me started until I found corners of Twitter that I liked.

Here on lemmy, there’s a front page that’s bound to have something worthwhile.
