Lemmy doesn’t have this problem, but mastodon needs algorithms. Otherwise, discovery is more difficult and you must be around at the same time people of interest are either there or being boosted. People leave thinking it’s boring.

Me too

4 bowls of chili before the interview. And deviled eggs. No words necessary.

No. Wife and kids only use the Big tech apps. I think ads and tracking don’t bother them as much as they do me.
I use Firefox with Phoenix on the desktop so the standard profile is just a little less strict than librewolf and the hardened profile is a little more strict. https://github.com/celenityy/Phoenix

The pharmacy is not where the people that stock the front of the store work. They are very busy trying to fill hundreds of prescriptions and deal with doctors, patients and insurance companies.
Don’t ask them where to find the cosmetics that are on sale. We don’t even know. We are not a service desk.

Glad I could help

How can no one else miss Taco Bell’s naked chicken chalupa? I loved that thing.
And the McRib is missed every time it leaves.
I’ve had the best experience with Summit. Went through quite a few before stopping here.

56, in Alabama. Pharmacist. Use Pop!_OS on a System76 Darter Pro. I’ve never used Reddit but I’m a regular on Mastodon and Pixelfed. Also use X. No other social media.

Working in the caddyshack. I use that all the time which makes me think you’re genX too. I think maybe the fediverse skews older because we’ve learned from our mistakes with prior social media.

That doesn’t sound better, for an end user anyway.

It sounds like the advantages are really for the instance owners.

Thank you. I need to read this.

Thanks for the info, but serious question, why would I want to? Why is it better than Lemmy?

This is what confuses me. If they are following Lemmy instances anyway wouldn’t it just use a Lemmy client?

So the difference between PieFed and Lemmy mostly becomes interface? Or is it the server backend?
Tags are fine for that although not all things are tagged well.
As for algorithms, they are only as bad as they are implemented. They don’t have to promote rage and ads. Bluesky does this well by allowing many user created feeds to choose from. Mastodon needs this option.
