I like the tip for reading with toddlers!
I don’t think anyone has done an update, no. Honestly, the feature I never expected to want until I got a Ricoh GRIIIx a few months earlier is highlight weighted exposure meeting. Since it’s not an SLR however you can obviously see the histo anyway.
It has a wee filter ring already for the lens cap to clip into. Apparently some folks just stick a UV filter on and do away with the lens cap.
Dpreview has a camera feature search which is how I came across the G1XIII. There isn’t anything else quite like it, and a good used one is well worth it. Even over most of the other premium compacts it has a huge advantage for backpacking by being weather sealed.
Is there something else you wanted from it, or just looking for new?
I usually leave it at chroma only as well. Luminance noise is far less unpleasant on the eyes.
It’s tricky to get the saturation right for every viewer. Looks pretty accurate on my screen.
Scotland - Central Belt.
Helped that this patch of the garden gets full sun for most of the day so I could stop down plenty.
I wish I had time to dedicate to bee ID!
Almost reflex downvoted, but it’s not your fault.
Since you’re asking for feedback, I would say the background is a little busy for what I would guess your intent is of having a crisp flower shot.
The framing might be improved by simply cropping out the tulip on the right completely.
If you’d been able to swing the camera around to the left a tick, would that have enabled you to not have the trees directly behind the flowers? Even just pushing them to the side of the frame without removing them entirely could have maintained some background interest without having the contrast of the bokeh edges sitting right next to the sharp edges of the in focus flowers.
This might just be my screen, but it’s a bit dark. Flowers generally like to pop a bit more.
Good focus regardless.
First learn the rules, and then learn how to break them
A bit too much water between us for that.
I’m going to repeat Ursula K Le Guin and Margaret Atwood because it’s hard to overstate how much of everything is in their works. Iain (M) Banks I’ll also echo, but will add China Miéville because there aren’t enough anarchists in this thread.
I appreciate you naming more than one female author!
Reynolds sometimes lacks a touch on the human side of his work. That being said, I’ve not read much of his more recent novels so he might have matured since finishing his 10 year contract.
I remember reading an interview of his where he said he wrote his contemporary fiction in order to support his science fiction writing. Whilst they’re still good novels, his regular works didn’t have as much of his soul as his SF.
Thanks for asking about split on 18! I assumed it was about not trying to marry your highschool sweetheart or something!
Oof! Way out of my price range!
I worked with an ex-paramedic who alluded to a similar factor in leaving to become a nurse aide.
