Like if your vegan anarchist grandma and vegan anarchist dad were the same person.

I am an engineer (closer to toot toot then clicky clacky) cosplaying as a farmer in unceded aninstanabe territory in eastern ontario.

Pronouns: she/they

Maybe the real vegan theory club were the friends we made along the way ✨

  • Work is being extremely shitty about accommodations. I moved to the middle of nowhere from a big city and while my previous employer was flawed, they at least understood their legal obligations. I’ve been way too flexible with them.

I’ve seen some astonishing bullshit from these guys in terms of fumbling HR stuff (getting parental leave entitlements wrong, despite it being federally protected not their own policy) and accessibility (no subtitles or transcripts for mandatory training videos) but once I get a few good night’s sleep they are going to learn what weaponized autism looks like 😎

(Meaning I’m coming prepared to inform them of their obligations)

  • I cleaned my dishwasher filter and it feels good man.

I bought some cleaning chemicals that you run through a cycle and am giving it a shot. I recently ran a cycle with a cup of vinegar in the machine which was primarily to help remove hard water deposits from my canning jars, but it also seemed to have done some cleaning. The product I am trying is mainly out of curiosity, I don’t think it will make that big of a difference. But then I’ll know!

  • Sorry to hear about your struggles. I also struggle with this and it’s manifest in surprising ways. I thought I was over my disordered eating of my teens and 20s where the act was intentional. Now in my 40s it’s back but it’s not conscious. In a way it’s easier because I’m not fighting my conscious brain and I am able to eat enough food, I just need to trick myself. It was really uncomfortable to realize that it’s part of the same thing but understanding it is helping me get through it.

  • Some earthenware that got fired, including a little guy that is going to help me keep my weed plants hydrated. I’m testing the smaller lidded vessel in the grow tent now, although it is too small to be practical, I didn’t want to upset the roots of the existing grow. Next round I will bury the larger lidded pot up to the rim and try watering via that and see if it helps control the humidity in the tent at all (by limiting the evaporation from watering).

There is also a small planter although I guess I forgot to put a drainage hole in it lmao.

  • The first way sounds like the result of management training, tbh. Giving people space to reply instead of jumping right into questions allows them to give a reason for example. The conversation can go in that direction and is about the situation not defending against the manager’s assumptions about why something happened. Like “You clocked in late yesterday.” The person can be like, “yeah I couldn’t find my socks.” It needs to be about something that everyone agrees happened tho.

I don’t think the second way is great either, and puts people in the defensive real quick. Like, “Your coworkers said you were late yesterday, is that true?” You are probably wondering which one of your coworkers is a narc instead of paying attention to the convo. Or maybe you weren’t late to work, but there was a spill in front of the terminal and you needed to wait for it to be cleaned or cleaned it yourself. And then forgot to get it adjusted. And you have an asshole coworker who is trying to start shit.

Sorry your manager is an asshole. I don’t know if ‘thin skinned’ is a useful term. It’s not thin skinned to be upset about being told you did shit you did not do.

  • I’ve been okay with being different for most of my life, but I also didn’t know why I was different. I think if I knew I might not have been so easy-breezy about it because of internalized abelism.

I can accept that my way of relating to the world doesn’t fit well in certain settings. I’m not happy in those setting either. That’s why, for example, I will never work at a design firm. But alternatively, I have strengths that make me excellent at field work.

What does hurt is when people assume bad intentions from me, or certain communications problems. Like how asking questions when given instructions is seen as defiance.

  • I just fired up the kiln (figure of speech, it is electric). Executive dysfunction has made it hard to get that done for the past few weeks/months but I decided to just omit two pieces that were not quite ready and still need some problem solving. Getting this done (and then the glaze fire in the coming weeks) will help me get my tests done so I can use that info for new pieces.

Yay for not letting perfection or optimization be the barrier!

  • I think it is hard for many people to accept that people experience the world in a different way than they do. It is also easier to believe in bad people and bad kids than to try and understand why they are behaving a certain way.

Sometimes I think people are angry they were forced to conform to social norms, so they are not open to a kinder way for others. If they could “behave”, these other people are just lazy!

I do think people with visible physical disabilities still have to deal with folks not understanding that means there are certain things they can’t do without support. Some people are really that hard to get to.
