  • It took a long time and some trial and error, but I have finally found medication that helps (Ritalin - long acting).

I don’t feel like a different person, and I don’t feel like I don’t have ADHD. I just feel a little more in control.

    Examples

Instead of working on a side project for 12 hours straight and forgetting to eat or work on the important tasks, I’m working on a side project for 12 hours with food and drink breaks, while being aware that the important tasks aren’t being done.

Instead of getting irrationally angry when interrupted and going straight back to what I’m working on, I get angry for a few seconds, take some breaths to calm down, then listen to the person who interupted me before going back to what I was working on.

Instead of wandering aimlessly around the house unable to focus on anything, I wander for a while, then decide to have a nap because I’m now aware of the exhaustion.

It really isn’t a miracle drug, but my life is so much better now. Most of the time I don’t even notice the effects, but I really notice the lack of effect when I forget to take them for a week.

It’s not easier than Windows, it’s the devil you know.

Sure it’s slow, but you know how slow. It does updates at the wrong time, but you know it will turn on again eventually. It sends all your data to Microsoft, but no-one has come to your door to harass you because what’s in your data.

Linux is some obscure thing that would take time and effort to learn, and you’re tired from work and just want to use a computer without thinking about it.

Things might be different if Windows wasn’t the default/only option when buying a new laptop.

  • I spent 20 minutes (I timed it) on the phone diagnosing a tech support issue and instructing the user on how to fix it. It took about 10 seconds for me to realise that number lock was turned off.

The rest of the 20 minutes was trying to get the user to find and press “Num lock” on the keyboard.

About 10 minutes in, they actually found and pressed it. Apon noticing that nothing had appeared on the screen, they tried pressing it again, then announced it didn’t work.

Somehow, just getting them to press the button one more time was not simple, as they now had to begin their logical left-to-right scan of the keyboard again to find this mysterious new “Num lock” button they’d never heard of before.

This person (on another call) would say the name of each key as they pressed it. They would say “Caps lock, A, Caps lock, Enter” when typing a single “A” on a line, but didn’t know what “Caps lock” was and couldn’t find it on the keyboard when asked to press it immediately after having said and pressed it.

  • Are you suggesting that all countries on earth will adopt this law, or that all developers in all countries will comply with the law of one country?

Will all previous versions of all OSs be deleted? Will all OSs become closed source so you can’t just remove the age verification part?

Will you be the only person on earth who is willing to break an unethical law to have basic privacy?

If yes to all the above, then you may need to start learning how to program.

  • It depends on where you live, but in most places, even the most expensive rapid charger is still cheaper than fuel. That’s not even including the lower maintenance costs of EVs.

You do miss out on the convenience of home charging, and that is a pretty big deal for most people. The best part about an EV is waking up to a full charge every day and never having to stop to fill up.

  • I often do something else on the phone that takes minimal effort and can be stopped at any time.

My normal choices are sudoku, crossword, 2048, or an idle game.

These hold systems (except the ones with a callback option) are absolutely not designed for disabilities, and I doubt they were even designed for human interaction. Forcing someone to actively wait is either a terrible oversight, or intentionally harmful design (i.e. to reduce the number of calls they need to handle).
