of all the responses I would expect this post to generate, Dr. Seuss was not one of them

Being fair, I’ve only been here a little under thirty years and I’m already thoroughly sick of us as a whole. I can’t imagine an eternity of it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Meal Replacement Drink Suggestions?
1·10 days agoYeah, I remember being given these when I was in the hospital. Avoid the vanilla/strawberry like the plague, I can’t remember which I hated more but I know the chocolate one tasted palatable and the others were liquid ass.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What Youtubers did you drop, And what caused you to do so?
7·10 days agoFlesh Simulator gave off subtle vibes of being kind of a chud, but he made interesting videos; then he partnered with MDE and put longform content behind a paywall there. I am not giving money to MDE, so MDE can give it to Sam Hyde, so Sam Hyde can give it to neo-nazis, no matter how good the content is; and the fact he defends this at all (and still does, to my knowledge) was enough for me to say “nah let’s just watch someone else”
I feel like, if you could read her mind in this exact moment the photo was taken, all you’d hear would be dial-up handshake noises. The one orange brain cell in the process of being transferred.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•what the fuck is that allowed???
13·11 days agothe better question is, if it isn’t (and if it were real), would you like to be the one to go outside and raise the issue with him?
frankly I think if everyone on the planet over a certain age took a heroic dose of mushrooms, just once, we could get about 90% of the way to global human enlightenment. A little ego death, as a treat.
Unfortunately, with the draconian laws against psychedelics (how dare you try and escape this reality when we’ve made it so pleasant!), this will almost certainly never come to pass.
I was gullible.
Met online on an app, thought we hit it off after our first date IRL, I was over at his place every chance I could to cuddle and watch movies together. After a few months they broke up with me via text on Christmas, saying they didn’t actually mean any of the things they said and that they didn’t feel right continuing.
That was my first and last “real” relationship, and I’ve largely given up on dating this past year or so. It’s getting more dangerous to be openly gay in the US (I have no illusions about what happens after they run out of trans people and immigrants to scapegoat), and I’ve been learning more and more that I simply don’t mesh well with others, so I suppose it’s for the better.
If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.
Fuck you, Shoresy!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite thing about dating or romantic relationships?
3·17 days agoYes, actually I’ve ceased actively looking for a partner for the better part of a year now. Little has changed, except I now have fewer apps on my phone. (I do still maintain one dating profile on an open source app but I check it on the order of twice a year because the app is dead, feel free to guess which)
More room for memes is cool, I guess

also I’ve tried solicited advice and it rarely helps either, so I don’t really care. It’s on me whether I follow it, and terrible advice is usually not subtle to everyone reading in a public forum. Do your worst, none of us are getting any younger.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite thing about dating or romantic relationships?
3·18 days agoyeah no I haven’t even managed to lose my v-card or really even have a meaningful romantic relationship, about the closest I came was someone leading me on and playing mind games with me for a few months. 🙃
Given my success so far, it’s easy to extrapolate “when will I find the one?” to “probably never”.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite thing about dating or romantic relationships?
12·18 days agoevery year I get a little older, a little more damaged, and a little less desirable; and the age bracket of people I’d be interested in get more baggage of their own and have more expectations of a potential partner. I’m in my late 20s living with family, and nobody really wants to date me already; I can’t fathom that will improve any in the future being a 30-something living with family (as I will likely still be too poor to leave).
Probably gonna die alone. Can’t wait, this place sucks anyhow.
REISUB basically does the same thing but slightly more gracefully. It will still reboot through basically any lockup (I have yet to encounter one it didn’t work on), but it gives your machine the chance to settle some things before cutting the power.
If a Linux machine locks up or freezes completely, use REISUB to restart it more gently than pushing the Power Button.
Hold down Alt and the SysReq (Print Screen) keys, and then type R E I S U B, with 2-3 second delays between the key presses to give the commands a better chance to complete.
R: Switch the keyboard from raw mode to XLATE mode
E: Send the SIGTERM signal to all processes except init
I: Send the SIGKILL signal to all processes except init
S: Sync all mounted filesystems
U: Remount all mounted filesystems in read-only mode
B: Immediately reboot the system, without unmounting partitions or syncingI suppose if you wanted to be extra quick and liked living dangerously you could just do alt + sysrq + R + B (I’m assuming switching the keyboard mode is necessary for getting the other commands to work during a complete lockup, but I could be wrong, you might only need B). But I wouldn’t recommend it, REISUB is plenty fast for me.
There are other commands too, like alt + sysrq + F to summon the OOM killer.
Lastly, and perhaps most critically, it also feels way cooler than just holding a single button. Comme ça:

I’ll bet the seller is kicking themselves right about now for that.
Wow, what’d you get all that for? Opening 5+ Chrome tabs?
What a terrible day to have eyes.

fuck it, can’t be more of a miserable crapshoot than trying different SSRIs. Bring on the maggots.
